Santervás de la Sierra: Nature, Trails and Village History

Santervás de la Sierra lies at the foot of the Sierra de la Carcaña. Centuries-old holm oaks grow on the Cerro del Cucurucho. The Natura 2000 site “Riberas del Duero y afluentes” is located in the area of Santervás de la Sierra; the Natura 2000 site “Sierras de Urbión y Cebollera” is also located there. Several clearly named landscape features therefore exist side by side here: the mountain foothills, the Cerro del Cucurucho and two protected areas with their own names.

Villagescape and History

Well-preserved stone houses with red-tiled roofs are part of the villagescape of Santervás de la Sierra.

According to local reports, the parish church of Santa Ana was severely damaged in May 1644 when a tornado struck the village and destroyed ten houses as well as the church building. The village walk thus combines visible architectural features with a specific historical date and the fate of the church building.
