Cubo De La Solana: Hiking Trails, Mill and Festivals

Hiking and Cycling

The PRC-SO 64 “Monte del Cubo” hiking trail is 13.6 km long, has a moderate difficulty level and is listed as taking four hours to walk. A considerably shorter route is the PR-SO 68 “Cubo de la Solana”: this trail has a walking time of 50 minutes and a low difficulty level.

Since 2005, three routes in the nature trail network have been signposted in Cubo De La Solana. These trails can be used on foot or by bicycle. A separate cycling tour leads from Almazán via Cubo De La Solana, Almarail and Alparrache and back to Almazán.

Orientation and Landscape

Cubo De La Solana’s trail network uses painted white and yellow markings to help with orientation in the terrain. At points where the type or direction of the trail changes significantly, wooden signs indicate the way.

Variant PRC-SO 64.1 of the “Monte del Cubo” trail leads via Majada Lobito, Laguna Redonda, Los Corredores, Laguna Guijosa and Laguna Larga. From the Ermita de la Virgen de la Solana, you can look out over the Duero and its meanders.

Culture and History

The Iglesia de San Martín preserves a Romanesque sandstone baptismal font decorated with eleven small round-arched arcades. The Ermita de la Virgen de la Solana has blue and orange walls covered with floral motifs.

At the Ermita de la Virgen de la Solana, there is a spring, a barbecue area, and permanently installed tables and benches.

The Casa Palacio de los Condes de Gómara is a 17th-century palace building made of masonry, with a façade bearing a coat of arms.

The Molino de La Solana mill was built around 1654 jointly by the Counts of Gómara and Foncalada. It met the milling needs of the entire surrounding area, including Campo de Gómara.

Festivals and Village Traditions

Día de las Migas takes place on Holy Saturday; all those attending are offered migas and hot broth.

The patron saint festivities are held from 16 to 19 August in honour of the Virgen de La Solana.

The traditional “gallofa” goes from house to house throughout the village accompanied by music.
