Discover La Rasa: Holiday apartment amid apple orchards and railway history

La Rasa combines a vast agricultural landscape with an unusual railway history. The Ruta de la Manzana de Soria runs through an approximately 1,000-hectare apple orchard in La Rasa. A road approximately 3.7 km long that divides the Finca La Rasa has become a tourist attraction for visitors to El Burgo de Osma through this route. History

La Rasa was founded in the 19th century to establish the El Burgo de Osma railway station outside the town centre. The Osma-La Rasa railway station was in operation from 1895 to 1985. Its history is therefore linked not only to a single building, but to a station whose operation continued over several decades.

As a disused railway station, Osma-La Rasa preserves its facilities, buildings, equipment and mechanical installations as a living railway museum. The preserved elements connect the former railway operation with present-day museum significance and give the local history a distinctly technical character.

Landscape

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Colonia Agrícola e Industrial del Duero was established to manage the approximately 1,000-hectare Finca La Rasa. The former sugar beet plantation of La Rasa was transformed into a high-quality apple orchard. La Rasa is home to one of the largest agricultural enterprises in Europe dedicated to apple cultivation.

The landscape therefore tells the story of a change in land use: apple cultivation followed the former sugar beet plantation, while the size of the finca preserves the agricultural framework. The connections between cultivation, industrial farming and regional history can be understood in La Rasa as interconnected yet distinct themes.

Getting there

The agricultural landscape is accessible by car via the SO-P4228 road between Navapalos and Vildé; parking is easy there. The road connection and the approximately 3.7 km-long route within the finca are two different spatial details.

Culture

La Rasa's patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua take place on 13 June. La Rasa is also home to the birthplace of Marcelino Camacho, a Spanish trade unionist and politician and founder of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO). The feast day, railway history and remembrance of an important figure thus complement the town's agricultural profile.
