Nature

Las Tablas de Daimiel National Park is located in the province of Ciudad Real and is one of the last remaining examples of the wetlands of La Mancha Húmeda.

The park has largely accessible paths, signposted trails and a visitor centre with information about the park’s history, biodiversity and conservation.

Cabañeros National Park is located in the Montes de Toledo, in the north-west of the province of Ciudad Real and the south-west of the province of Toledo.

Its landscape includes Mediterranean forests and scrubland, riparian forests, peat bogs and grassland.

Visitor centres, museums and information points at Cabañeros National Park present exhibitions on the park’s natural and cultural values; access to all these facilities is free.

Guided off-road vehicle routes allow visitors to explore an extensive area of Cabañeros National Park. They include a short walk and several observation stops.

Culture and History

The Museo-Archivo histórico municipal Elisa Cendrero is housed in a building constructed around 1917. On display are historic furniture, paintings, ethnographic objects, fans from the 17th to the 19th century, and 17th-century ceramics.

Alarcos was an important Iberian oppidum that was continuously inhabited from the Bronze Age until the end of the Middle Ages.

The Parque Arqueológico de Alarcos allows visitors to explore a strategically located hill where cultures, legends and decisive battles intersect.

The Museo Nacional de Teatro in Almagro (Ciudad Real) is Spain’s only museum devoted exclusively to the history of the theatrical arts.

Its collections cover Spanish theatre history from Greco-Roman theatre to the avant-garde movements of the 20th century and contain more than 10,000 works on paper.

Routes and Activities

The Ruta en bicicleta Volcán de la Santa Cruz al Volcán de Peñarroya y El Martinete is a 26-kilometre circular mountain-bike route through the volcanic areas of Alcolea de Calatrava.

The Georruta de Ciudad Real is an approximately 2-kilometre interpretive trail through the maars on which Ciudad Real is located. It begins at Plaza del Pilar, runs through Parque Juan Pablo II and ends at the Galerías del Torreón, where pyroclastic deposits can be seen.

Parque Gasset, a park, is located in the immediate vicinity of Ciudad Real. Pilar Park, also a park, is additionally located in the surroundings of Ciudad Real.

Parque Alces has an outdoor climbing wall. Members of the association can climb there after contacting the climbing association in advance; there is also a zip line.

Buses run from Ciudad Real to Alcoba, Horcajo de los Montes, Pueblonuevo del Bullaque, Retuerta del Bullaque and Navas de Estena.

The Museo Del Quijote Y Biblioteca Cervantina, a museum, is located in the immediate vicinity of Ciudad Real.

The Museo López Villaseñor, a museum, the Museo Diocesano, a museum, and the Antiguo Convento de la Merced, a museum, are located in the surroundings of Ciudad Real.

The Arco del Torreón del Alcázar, a natural arch, is located in the surroundings of Ciudad Real. Sierra Lucia, a mountain, is also located nearby.

Wine and Landscape

The Ruta del Vino de la Mancha connects La Mancha’s landscapes, characterised by vineyards, grain fields and Mediterranean uplands, with wine traditions and grape-harvest festivals. One of the ten participating municipalities is Socuéllamos in the province of Ciudad Real.
