Culture and History

The presbytery of the Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Asunción contains seven paintings from an altarpiece dating from the second half of the 16th century. They were painted by Juan Correa de Vivar. The church itself dates from the early 17th century and was extended in 1926.

Castillo de Salvatierra is a fortress of Islamic origin in the municipal area of La Calzada de Calatrava, in the south of Ciudad Real Province. Its archaeological remains can be viewed outdoors. The Túneles del Ojailén consist of five abandoned railway tunnels running parallel to the Ojailén River. They belong to the Natura 2000 network because they serve as a refuge for several endangered bat species during overwintering.

Entry into the Túneles del Ojailén is not permitted, especially during winter dormancy; visits in daylight are recommended.
