Alamillo is part of the Parque Natural del Valle de Alcudia y Sierra Madrona. Mountains, holm oak groves and Mediterranean woodland shape the landscape. The municipality also includes wetlands with small lagoons, the Bonales, the Alcudia River and streams that carry water irregularly.

Nature and Landscape

Vultures, black storks, Iberian lynxes and Spanish imperial eagles can be found in the municipality. The Ruta Urbana de la Naturaleza uses microperforated image panels on the façades of buildings in the town, showing mammals, birds and reptiles that may occur in the Parque Natural Valle de Alcudia y Sierra Madrona. Nature motifs throughout the municipality and the depiction of wildlife in the town offer different focal points for planning your day.

Culture and History

The Centro de Interpretación del Valle de Alcudia presents the valley’s fauna and flora, as well as ways of life such as livestock farming and sheep shearing, in a renovated traditional house. It also includes a replica of the Estela Funeraria de Alamillo. The Sala Interpretativa de Judas y Muñecas documents a tradition of Alamillo described as particularly important and unique, using explanatory panels, photographs, true-to-scale representations and videos.

The Iglesia Parroquial Purísima Concepción began in the 17th century as a small hermitage, was later converted into a church by decree and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception at the beginning of the 18th century. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; the church includes a single-nave body, a bell tower, a baptismal font and sacramental furnishings from the 18th century.

In the Sierra del Pajonal and at the Peñas del Burcio, there are rock shelters with schematic rock paintings. The Estela de Alamillo is an exceptional Bronze Age funerary stele.

The Puente de los Soldados is a railway bridge over the Alcudia River between the Chillón and Alamillo stations, opened in the second half of the 19th century. Historically, it is associated with Spain’s first major railway accident, which took place in 1884. The programme for the second Feria de la Trashumancia in Alamillo included discussion rounds, gastronomic workshops, regional dances, a communal meal, traditions, demonstrations, falconry and live music.

Routes and Trails

The Ruta de Senderismo “El Valle y las Hectáreas” is a circular trail that passes through the municipality of Alamillo. It runs entirely along municipal paths, making it easy to walk. At the western edge of the municipality, the Senda de la Plata follows a route that was formerly used to transport mercury to Seville.
