El Robledo on the Bullaque River: Nature, Trails and Tradition

El Robledo is traversed by the Bullaque River. The Alcobilla, a tributary of the Bullaque River, also runs through the area. The area of El Robledo belongs to the Site of Community Importance and Special Protection Area “Ríos de la Cuenca Media del Guadiana y Laderas Vertientes”.

Water and Nature

The recreational area on the Bullaque River is where the kayaking and canoeing experiences offered by Aventuras Cabañeros take place. During the spring and summer months, it has shaded areas, places for swimming and picnic areas for groups. The kayaking activity takes place on calm water along an approximately one-kilometre-long navigable section of the Bullaque River. Trails and Night Skies

The Ruta de la Cueva del Moro is 18 kilometres long and can be covered on foot or by bicycle. It begins at Parque de El Robledo and leads to Junta de los Ríos. Along the way, you can observe raña landscapes, abundant vegetation consisting of willows and ash trees, as well as numerous mammals and birds. The fixed length and the two possible means of transport can be considered different criteria when planning your route. Culture and Tradition

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen is a single-nave church building with a three-storey tower at the rear. El Robledo’s festival and tradition calendar begins on the first Saturday in May with the Romería de la Virgen de Fátima. During this romería, local residents spend a day outdoors. Culture can therefore be considered in terms of both the building and its date in the annual calendar.

Cuisine

El Robledo’s traditional cuisine includes migas, pisto, gachas, tiznao, caldereta, asadillo and game meat. Sweet dishes include tortas de manteca or de chicharra, fried pastries such as flores, rosquillos and barquillos, as well as mantecados and perrunas.
