The Corral de Comedias de Almagro is the only fully preserved Corral de Comedias that has remained active from the beginning of the 17th century to the present day. In 1628, Leonardo de Oviedo created it by converting the former Mesón del Toro. Today, it is used as a theater.

Culture

The Museo Nacional de Artes Escénicas is housed in a medieval building constructed in the mid-13th century. Its Mudejar cloister serves as a stage for performances, workshops and educational activities.

The Hospital de San Juan has an open-air theater that is used as a venue for the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Almagro.

The Espacio de Arte Hospital de San Juan/Adolfo Marsillach houses more than sixty works from its own holdings and on loan. It also hosts temporary exhibitions, conferences, activities and workshops.

Tradition

Almagro has a lace-making tradition documented as early as medieval inventories and documents from the La Mancha region. The Encuentro Nacional de Encajeras takes place in Almagro every year and begins with a traditional flower-laying ceremony at the Monumento a la Encajera.

In July, thousands of visitors gather in Almagro to experience the great authors of the Golden Age.
