Carnival and Culture

The Festival de Folklore “Villa de Miguelturra” reached its 43rd edition and is an established cultural event held in summer in Miguelturra. The program of Carnaval de Miguelturra 2026 spans ten days and retains the structure of events from previous years. The experience is shaped by the local peñas, street masks and charangas.

The Encuentro de Encajeras also adds its own distinctive touch: this event features specialized sales stands where participants can buy materials for lace-making or display and sell their own work. The Concurso de Tortilla de Patatas in Miguelturra reached its eleventh edition in 2019; the competition concludes with a public tasting of the submitted tortillas.

History and Architecture

The Hervideros del Emperador began operating as a bathing facility in 1847. The Baños del Emperador, also known as Baños de Trujillo, are located near Peralvillo on the right bank of the Guadiana within the municipality of Miguelturra. The remains of an old bathing facility with two pools are preserved there, in which rising water bubbles can be observed.

The Ermita del Santísimo Cristo comprises four chapels with altarpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as a main altarpiece featuring the image of Cristo de la Misericordia. The Ermita-convento de Nuestra Señora de la Estrella is considered to have been built in the 17th century; its façade and interior are attributed to the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Its dome has pendentives depicting the four Evangelists.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates back to the Renaissance and later acquired a Baroque vault, several chapels and a bell tower in the 18th century. Its main altarpiece has been restored several times. The Puente de Hierro also crosses the Guadiana between the municipalities of Miguelturra, Carrión and Ciudad Real near Peralbillo.

Nature and Trails

The Parque Forestal de San Isidro has a botanical educational trail presenting 15 significant plant species from the local fields and mountains. The 450,000-square-meter park includes sports facilities, picnic areas and a children’s playground.

Miguelturra publishes official descriptions of its rural paths with geolocation and satellite maps. These can be used for hiking and for covering the paths in other ways. The municipal route “Paseando por Miguelturra” passes through the Hoya del Mortero maar.

One of the early stages of the Camino de Santiago Manchego passes through Peralvillo, a district of Miguelturra. Part of the municipality of Miguelturra is designated as a critical area for the Iberian lynx. The municipality also forms part of a range area for the Spanish imperial eagle, as well as areas of importance for the Spanish imperial eagle, the cinereous vulture, the black stork and the Iberian lynx. Miguelturra also forms part of the Sierra de Picón Site of Community Importance, the Embalse del Vicario game reserve and the Campo de Calatrava Special Protection Area for Birds.
