Culture and History

During the Fiestas del Cristo de la Misericordia, bonfires are lit every year in the streets of Castellar de Santiago at 9 p.m. on 13 September; they mark the beginning of the festivities. Parque Francisco Castilla features sculptures inspired by the local flora and fauna.

The parish church of Santa Ana was built in the mid-16th century on uneven ground; an artificial stone embankment was created to level the building structure. The iron mine on the slopes of Cerro el Castellón has Celtiberian origins. La Herrumbrosa, also known as Rumbrosa, is a natural area in the southern part of the municipality of Castellar de Santiago at the foot of the Sierra Morena. During the pilgrimage to San Marcos, La Herrumbrosa is a local recreational area. The natural area can be visited free of charge and without fixed opening hours.
