Ruidera is primarily associated with the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de Ruidera, a protected natural area with 15 lakes connected by natural barriers and waterfalls. The Lagunas de Ruidera are home to more than 250 vertebrate species; the predominant animals include birds such as the mallard, red-crested pochard and western marsh harrier.

Nature

One of the most notable water features is the Cascada del Hundimiento, the largest waterfall in the Lagunas de Ruidera. The route to the Cascada del Hundimiento is signposted from the centre of Ruidera and takes about 10 minutes on foot. The approximate walking time classifies this natural attraction as a short section to include in your day's planning.

The Parque Natural de las Lagunas de Ruidera has low-barrier parking spaces, access ramps and a low-barrier bathing area. The Laguna del Rey is located within the municipality of Ruidera.

Water and activities

The Parque Natural de las Lagunas de Ruidera offers active tourism opportunities, including water-based activities, diving and adventure programmes for families, groups and companies. For planning the day, the approximately ten-minute walk, water activities, diving and adventure programmes can be viewed as different forms of time and experience. Nature, exercise and water can therefore be considered separate focal points.

For travel planning, the areas mentioned can be given different weighting: the natural area with its wildlife, the water-based activities, the routes to a natural attraction, the journey there and the culture represent different perspectives. This allows travellers to put together a daily rhythm consisting of landscape, exercise, local history and practical routes without mixing the topics. The information available leaves room for different combinations rather than prescribing a fixed itinerary.

Getting there

From Madrid or Ciudad Real, the journey leads via the N-IV to Manzanares and then via the N-430 through La Solana, Alhambra and Ruidera; from Albacete, it leads via the N-430. The route information can be organised according to the respective starting point: Madrid and Ciudad Real are grouped together, while Albacete is listed separately.

A holiday apartment in Ruidera can be incorporated into your personal travel plan with regard to travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. The town's thematic focuses remain independently readable.

Culture

For those interested in culture, church architecture, a religious statue, festival traditions and industrial history stand as separate topics. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Blanca was built in 1958. It houses a statue of Nuestra Señora de la Blanca dating from the 16th century. The Fiesta de la Independencia is one of Ruidera's traditional festivals. La Casa del Rey is connected with Ruidera's gunpowder factory, built between 1781 and 1785.

For the overarching travel overview: Ciudad Real.
