Culture
The historic quarter of Llanes is designated as a Conjunto Histórico-Artístico. It contains 13th-century walls and the Torreón. The Basílica de Santa María del Concejo was built between the 13th and 15th centuries and houses a Plateresque altarpiece.
The harbour of Llanes was important for fishing from the 15th to the 18th century. The preserved church of San Antolín de Bedón is a Romanesque building at the mouth of the River Bedón, next to San Antolín Beach. The monastery of San Salvador in Celorio is a Romanesque cultural heritage site in the municipality of Llanes.
The Ídolo de Peña Tú features Bronze Age paintings and engravings and is designated a National Monument. The Museo del Oriente de Asturias preserves and presents the cultural characteristics of eastern Asturias and offers exhibitions and cultural activities throughout the year.
The film interpretation trail Llanes de cine leads to up to 25 filming locations where more than 42 sequences from 18 feature films, three television series and one short film were made. The filming locations have signposts; an explanatory brochure for the tour is available in Spanish, English and French.
Cuisine
Cheese specialities in the municipality of Llanes include fresh or matured Queso de Porrúa, the mild and creamy Queso de Vidiago, and the well-known Ahumado de Pría.
Getting Around
The Senda Costera from Bustio to Guadamía Beach is approximately 65 kilometres long and covers the entire coast of Llanes. The route is divided into five sections to make it easier to walk, and can be combined with a train journey for the outward or return trip. The Senda Fluvial del Río Carroceu connects Llanes with the neighbouring village of Pancar via La Portilla.
The Ruta de los Bufones starts and ends in Llames (Pría), is rated easy and takes four and a half hours. El Camín Encantáu leads from La Venta via Comezán, La Malatería, Palaciu and Ardisana to Ricaliente. The Ruta de Mañanga is a 7-kilometre, easy circular route for pedestrians and cyclists starting at the car park at La Concha in Porrúa and takes approximately two and a half hours.
The Ruta de los Colores del Valle Oscuru has seven information panels on the natural, historical and ethnographic features of the valley. It is an approximately 13-kilometre circular route starting and ending at the car park in the village of Tresgrandas.
The Paseo de San Pedro is a landscaped promenade along the sea cliffs, with views of Llanes and the coast. The official Llanes visitor portal links to information on travelling by car, bus, train and plane.
Nature
Gulpiyuri is an inland beach connected to the sea by a cave. The beach can be reached on foot from San Antolín Beach or from the village of Naves; vehicle traffic is not permitted.
Playa de Toró has a characteristic shell shape; rocky pillars rise from the sand as remnants of older karst formations. It has highly accessible facilities with a ramp, parking spaces and services for people with disabilities, as well as a bathing service with an amphibious chair for people with reduced mobility.
Torimbia is a natural beach bordered by cliffs more than 50 metres high. From Niembro, Torimbia can be reached via an asphalt road to Cabo Prieto and then along a footpath to the beach.
At the end of the Paseo de San Antón stands a lighthouse dating from 1860, with the original octagonal tower that survived the 1946 fire.
