Piñeres: Way of Saint James, Festivals and Traditional Architecture

The Way of Saint James reaches Piñeres via the AS-263 and an underpass beneath the motorway. From Piñeres, it follows the road to La Pesa and then a path to the Church of San Pedro de Pría. The stage from Nueva to Ribadesella leads to Piñeres and then passes close to the pilgrims’ hospice. Piñeres is one of the seven villages of the parish of Pría; on the Sunday after Easter, the residents go to the Church of San Pedro for the Festival of the Virgin of the Flower. At this festival, a pyramid-shaped floral arrangement loaded with bread and flowers is carried; bagpipes, drums and tambourines are also part of the celebration. The folk performances culminate in the traditional Danza Prima dance.

The Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción is scheduled in Piñeres de Pría for 7 and 8 December 2026. The programme includes the departure of the Ramos from the spring of Jogozalo. Danza Prima, a bread auction and traditional dances are also planned.
