Niembru between beaches, estuary and coastal paths

Coast

At high tide, the cemetery of Niembro, together with the adjacent neoclassical church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, built in 1794, forms a coastal landscape in Niembru.

Sevalle is a small natural cove, approximately 50 metres wide, in Niembro that can be reached on foot. Torimbia is classified as a natural beach and is enclosed by cliffs more than 50 metres high. The different forms of cove, beach and cliff provide various points of reference for individual planning.

Playa de Toranda is Niembru’s beach; a path through the village farther inland leads there. Toranda is 300 metres long, has golden sand and is accessible on foot. To the east of Playa de Toranda, the Ría de Niembro flows into the sea and forms an estuary of great biological interest.

The river mouth forms a bay with very calm water that falls dry at low tide. For orientation, the coastal features can be distinguished by their shape, length and tidal conditions, without combining them into a single landscape image.

Paths

Coastal hiking route, Section IV, runs for approximately 8 kilometres from Celorio to San Antolín. Niembro’s recreational area can be reached from this coastal hiking route.

The second stage of the Camino de la Costa between Llanes and Ribadesella is 29.8 kilometres long and passes through Niembru, between Barru and Naves. From Niembru, Torimbia can be reached via a paved path that leaves Toranda behind and climbs up to Cabo Prieto.
