Culture and history
Jaén Cathedral is considered a masterpiece by Andrés de Vandelvira and one of the most significant Renaissance works in Andalusia.
The Arab Baths were built in the 11th century beneath the Villardompardo Palace. They cover 450 square metres and are considered to be probably the largest visitable complex of their kind in Spain.
The Alcázar Nuevo of Castillo de Santa Catalina, built after the Christian conquest of 1246, preserves its original masonry enclosure with six towers.
The Museo Íbero de Jaén was opened on 11 December 2017 and created as a museum to house the most important material evidence of Iberian culture. The fortified Oppidum de Puente Tablas is also located 4 kilometres from Jaén; its most important archaeological phase belongs to the Iberian period, mainly the 4th century BC.
Castillos y Batallas del Reino de Jaén is a cultural and tourism offering with monuments open to visitors and signposted routes. Jaén is also part of the Red de Juderías de España – Caminos de Sefarad, an initiative to preserve and communicate the Jewish heritage.
