Torres: Nature, Culture and Holiday Apartments

The large tourist swing in Torres is located at an altitude of 960 metres and is 3.5 metres high. From there, the view extends over the town, traditional olive groves and the valley to the landscapes adorned with cherry blossoms, as well as the peaks of Almadén and Cárceles.

Panoramas and Nature

A large part of the municipality of Torres lies within Sierra Mágina Natural Park. The landscape is shaped, among other things, by native stands of pine, holm oak and Portuguese oak, as well as aromatic plants. In Sierra Mágina Natural Park near Torres, visitors can go hiking, mountain biking, climbing, bouldering and free flying. There are also viewpoints offering extensive panoramas of the mountain landscape.

Trails and Landscape

The Fuenmayor recreation area is located about 7 km south of Torres at the foot of the Almadén peak and can be reached from the town via a paved road. It is situated in a densely wooded area beside the Arroyo de los Fresnos de Fuenmayor stream. There is a spring, a pond, waterfalls, benches and picnic tables.

The Sendero Fuenmayor begins in the recreation area. Access leads there from Torres via the path at the end of the Paseo de San Isidoro; the recreation area is 7 km from the town. The Sendero Fuenmayor passes through stands of holm oak and thorny scrub vegetation. It also runs through reforested areas with Aleppo and black pine, past olive, cherry and almond plantations, as well as streams with riparian vegetation. Along the way, there are panoramic views of the peaks around Torres. The trail crosses the Zurreón waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in the park. In cold weather, it freezes and then looks particularly impressive.

The main attractions in Torres can be clearly distinguished by focus: the large swing and the viewpoints open up views of mountain landscapes, Fuenmayor combines forest, water and a trail, while La Puente and the Cueva del Morrón represent traces of history. The Feria de los Jornaleros adds its own accent as a religiously influenced festival with a celebratory character.

Culture and History

The surviving La Puente is a stone bridge with a single raised semicircular arch. It was built in the 16th century, connected Torres with the Fuenmayor area and its mills, and was constructed by Andrés de Vandelvira.

The Cueva del Morrón is a Palaeolithic rock sanctuary with red and black depictions of goats. These paintings are recognised as cultural heritage of special interest, as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC).

The Feria de los Jornaleros is a traditional festival in Torres with a distinctly religious origin and, at the same time, a celebratory character.
