Prados De Armijo: Hiking Trails, Olive Groves and Virgen Milagrosa
Prados De Armijo has PR-BS-30, a circular hiking route through Prados de la Solana. The different routes, elevations and modes of travel make the routes easy to compare thematically.
Trails
PR-BS-28 begins in Prados de Armijo (La Solana), on the square in front of the church. For the first 1.5 kilometres, the route follows a path parallel to the Arroyo del Ojanco and then reaches the JA-9115. PR-BS-30 climbs through olive groves to the Barranco de Cuadros and reaches an elevation of 1,110 metres. PR-BS-31 passes the Arroyo del Ojanco and climbs via the track through the Barranco de Cuadros to Cerro del Tomizo. PR-BS-32 uses the JV-7007, crosses Cerro de la Atalayuela and continues along the track at the Cerezuelo.
PR-BS-31 follows the JA-9115 road towards Prados de Armijo and ends in Prados de la Umbría. PR-BS-32 is a circular hiking route with an endpoint in Prados de la Umbría. For planning purposes, the trails can be distinguished by circular route, ascent, landscape and destination.
The four routes therefore differ clearly in their layout: PR-BS-28 combines a circular route, a church square, a stream and a road; PR-BS-30 combines a circular route, olive groves and the climb to the Barranco de Cuadros; PR-BS-31 ends in Prados de la Umbría; PR-BS-32 combines a circular route, a road section, a hill and a track. These differences make it easier to compare the trails described directly.
Nature
The Fuente de Prados de Armijo spring is in good condition. The Sendero Olivo Milenario Fuentebuena Arroyo del Ojanco is accessible on horseback, on foot and by bicycle. At the junction of Prados de Armijo, this trail turns off; the Olivo de la Fuentebuena is about 50 metres from the road.
Culture
The Capilla de la Milagrosa is located in the hamlet of Prados de Armijo. In the Iglesia de la Virgen Milagrosa there is a small altarpiece measuring 90 × 70 centimetres, featuring an image of the Nazareno. The altarpiece has carved angel heads on the sides, with an image of Christ in the centre.
Remains of various civilisations, including Muslim remains, have been found in the area around Prados de Armijo. The patron saint festivities of Prados de Armijo, held in honour of Virgen Milagrosa, have taken place since 1941. The main patron saint festival in her honour takes place on the weekend closest to 23 May. During the festivities, the evenings with dances alternate annually between La Solana and La Umbría; the Virgin is carried in procession to La Umbría and then back to her church in La Solana.
