Chilluévar – Holiday Apartment Between the Sierra de Las Villas and Olive-Growing Landscapes

Chilluévar is located in the transition zone between the Sierra de Las Villas and the olive-growing landscape of the Province of Jaén, in the Upper Guadalquivir Basin. Culture and History

The Roman bridge over the Cañamares River is located 2.5 km from the town centre. It has a single opening with a semicircular arch and vertical side surfaces and is considered one of the municipality’s best-preserved examples of cultural heritage.

The Roman remains found in Las Almansas date from the 2nd and 3rd centuries and are kept at the Museo Provincial de Jaén. Other remains of past cultures include the Torreón de Nubla on the left bank of the Cañamares River, at its confluence with the Cerezuelo River.

The present-day parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Paz was completely rebuilt in the 1970s. The wider regional surroundings of Chilluévar also include Castillo de Sabiote, a castle; Palacio De Los Manueles, a palace; Palacio del Marqués de Mancera, a palace; and Museo Arqueologico De Ubeda, a museum.

Festivals and Cultural Life

During the patron saint’s festival in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Paz, celebrated on 24 January, large bonfires made from olive-pruning remnants are built throughout the municipality on the preceding night. The stated dates can be clearly distinguished from one another for personal annual planning.

On Corpus Christi, the residents of Chilluévar decorate the town’s main streets with carpets and flower altars; the procession also takes place there.

The Semana Cultural takes place in Chilluévar during the week before the September festivals. Various local associations take part and organise dances, exhibitions, theatre performances, five-a-side football gatherings and horseback rides.
