Culture and History
The Iglesia de Santa María del Collado was built between the 13th and 18th centuries over a Visigothic church from the 7th century and was classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1978. Construction of the Iglesia de San Esteban began in the 15th century and continued over the following centuries; the church has a medieval basilica-style floor plan.
The Ermita del Egido, also known as the Ermita del Collado, was rebuilt in 1624 and has a two-part wooden roof with a roof structure in the Mudejar tradition. The Castillo de San Esteban is a viewpoint overlooking the historic town centre of Santisteban del Puerto and was classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1985. The Torre de Poyato is a keep that once belonged to a rural castle from the 13th century. The Cueva de Apolinario was classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural.
The Museo de Escultura Jacinto Higueras displays religious sculptures, depictions of the sculptor's family, and monuments; portraits of the sculptor and the awards from the International Sculpture Competition are also exhibited there. The museum preserves original works and documents by the sculptor Jacinto Higueras Fuentes, donated by his family in 1963. Personal connections to the family, artistic works, and public tributes are thus presented side by side. Traditional blacksmithing is still practised in Santisteban del Puerto today.
Nature
La Carnicera is a municipal estate where Mediterranean woodland landscapes and cork oak stands can be observed. Las Buitreras offers the opportunity to observe the flora and fauna typical of the Sierra Morena massif, particularly Mediterranean woodland landscapes.
The nature selection therefore presents two clearly named points of reference side by side: the cork oak stand at La Carnicera and the flora and fauna typical of the Sierra Morena massif at Las Buitreras. Both details classify the nature themes differently without combining them into a single landscape picture.
Cuisine
Ajopuerco is prepared during the seasonal slaughter ritual known as the matanza in Santisteban del Puerto and offered to the guests of the matanza.
When selecting a holiday apartment in Santisteban del Puerto, travel dates, accommodation category, and cancellation conditions can be checked side by side on the respective offer pages. These details provide a consistent basis for comparison when planning a trip that takes into account different focuses among the historic buildings, the nature themes of La Carnicera and Las Buitreras, and the seasonal culinary connection of the matanza. The three themes can be considered separately.
