Culture

Things to Do

The Zelená Cesta educational trail begins in a park in Kremnica, leads towards Skalka and makes its first stop at Vejmutovský porast. The trail is 8.9 km long, has eight stations, takes about four hours and includes a long and a short loop.

The astronomical observations included in the planetarium's standard programme are accompanied by expert explanations and take place only in favourable weather conditions.

Water and Wellness

Vodný raj Vyhne is a thermal spa in the Žiar nad Hronom District that is open year-round. It uses therapeutic thermal water with a high iron content and a temperature of up to 36.5°C. Vodný raj Vyhne offers a swimming pool, a multi-purpose pool, a children's pool, a relaxation pool and a water slide.

Castle Trails

Šášov Castle can be reached from the village of Šášovské Podhradie via green-marked hiking trails in about 15 minutes on foot. The ruins of Teplica Castle can be reached from Sklené Teplice via a yellow-marked trail which, after a steeper ascent, joins a green-marked trail leading to the castle. The hiking route to Teplica Castle is 4.7 km long, takes about two hours and is of medium difficulty.

Transport and Region

The Bratislava–Zvolen railway line runs through Žiar nad Hronom. In the wider regional area, the Pohronská hradná cesta runs along the Hron River from Hronský Beňadik to Zvolen.
