Holiday apartment in Kopernica: hiking trails and cycling loop
Kopernica lies in the western group of the Kremnické vrchy, in a narrow, long valley of the Kopernický potok. At the same time, the village is part of the Kremnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The location combines a clearly defined valley setting with forests, marked trails, historic buildings, and routes for hikers and cyclists.
Nature
Above Kopernica, the forests are still crisscrossed by a dense network of roads and paths as a result of intensive mining activity. South of Kopernica lies Horná Klapa, a rocky outcrop that serves as a natural viewpoint. It is not unusual to encounter red deer and roe deer in the surrounding forests. Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries grow in the forests around Kopernica.
Culture and village character
The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Martin the Bishop is the oldest historic building in Kopernica. It is a Gothic building from the 13th century. The main altar of Saint Martin dates from 1743 and is designed in the Baroque style. In addition, several typical German houses with passageways have been preserved in Kopernica to this day.
Hiking and cycling
Two marked routes with different route names are the main options for hikes. The Kopernica–Lutila–Dolná Klapa–Jazierko Slobodné route is a locally marked hiking trail. The Kopernica–Slaská–Jazierko Slobodné route is also a marked hiking trail. Both names lead through the landscape around Kopernica and identify Jazierko Slobodné as the same destination.
The Pohronsko–kremnický cycling loop also includes Kopernica. It is 49 km long, classified as SPORT, and suitable for road bikes, trekking bikes, and mountain bikes. The loop runs from Lúčky via Kopernica to Lutila. Above Kopernica, it climbs another ascent and offers a view of the surrounding landscape there.
