Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Gallus, including its fortifications, is registered as an immovable national cultural monument under number 1264/1 in the central register of monuments. Its Renaissance features date from the end of the 15th century. As the local church, it was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style and remodelled in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The church tower, baptismal font and fortifications of the Church of Saint Gallus date from 1654.

The Church of Saint Gallus dominates a hill above Slaská; the former parish house is located below the church. It stands on a slight elevation in the southwest of Slaská and continues to be used for its religious purpose. A chapel is located northeast of and above Slaská. Around 20 cast-iron crosses stand in the Slaská cemetery. A wooden cross stands by house number 57, and Slaská also has a masonry wayside shrine. Sacred and religious elements stand alongside granary buildings, house façades and craft details in the village landscape.

Villagescape

The historic centre of Slaská consists of a square of the extended street type, oriented from north to south. Historic building features include connected two-storey granaries on plots 422, 423, 433 and 434, as well as a freestanding two-storey granary on plot 15.

Several residential buildings also preserve distinctive details. The northern wooden gable of house number 162 has a decorative trim with carved wing-like elements. The two-storey house numbered 180–181 displays features of a German stone house, while the southern section has stucco elements. The group of houses numbered 190, 191, 192, 193 and 198 features artistic and architectural details, including gables, decorative elements, façade articulation, a niche and distinctive window shapes.

Landscape

Slaská lies below the Kremnica Mountains. The cadastral area ranges from 375 to 641 metres above sea level. From Slaská, routes to Kremnica and to other municipalities in the valley of the Kremnický potok lead north and south.

Hiking

A marked hiking trail leads from Kopernica via Slaská to Jazierko Slobodné. The Hauerland hike from Kremnica to Handlová also passes through Jarabica, Bernardov, Slaská, Kosorín, Janova Lehota, Peklo, Triesky and the saddle below Vysoká.

This Hauerland hike is listed as 39 kilometres long, with 1,672 metres of ascent and 1,791 metres of descent. Its difficulty is rated medium—level 3 on a five-level hiking scale—and the hike is listed as taking two days. Upon entering Slaská, the Hauerland hiking trail follows a section of paved roads and is marked there as a tourist trail.

Another route is a 38.5-kilometre circular route from Kremnica via Kremnické Bane, Kunešov, Slaská, Kopernica and Lúčky back to Kremnica. This circular route has 618 metres of elevation gain.
