At the southern edge of Ihráč lies the designated Ihráčske kamenné more natural monument. Between the valley, mountain and volcanically shaped rock formations, natural surroundings and local history come together within a close geographical context.

Nature

The Ihráčske kamenné more is designated as a natural monument, lies at the southern edge of Ihráč and covers 2.2 hectares. This area contains a disintegrating volcanic vent that represents the remains of a natural lava channel. The geology of the Ihráčske kamenné more is predominantly andesitic and dates back to Tertiary volcanism. Thus, this natural monument is defined not only by its visible rock formations, but also by their history of formation.

Access to the Ihráčske kamenné more follows the road to the church, past the football pitch and then right onto a grassy path. The sequence of waypoints precisely describes the direct access within Ihráč.

Geography

Ihráč lies in a valley through which the Biely potok flows. Below Ihráč, the same stream is called Ihráčsky potok. The Chom mountain rises above the valley and reaches 1,012 metres. The watercourse, valley and mountain therefore shape the geographical setting of the village and its immediate surroundings.

History and Culture

The earliest documented written mention of Ihráč dates from 26 February 1388. The history of the village also includes charcoal burning: in the 17th and 18th centuries, this activity provided a livelihood for some families in Ihráč. The traditional way of life also included processing wood; many families lived from working in the forest.

A visible testimony to the village's more recent history is the Church of Christ the King in Ihráč, built in 1938. The traditional dishes handed down also refer to the everyday life of the population. Common dishes included bread, cabbage soup, barley soup, boiled beans, Trhance and Halušky, and later potatoes as well.

Things to Do

In the valley of the Biely potok, the Prieboj–Železné vráta rock formation lies about 2 kilometres above Ihráč. Continuing farther up the valley, you reach a narrow rocky gorge after about 10 minutes, formed by volcanic activity in the Kremnica Mountains. Both destinations are directly connected with the valley and its volcanically shaped geology.

Cyclists can also use a designated route through the village: the 49-kilometre cycling circuit “Pohronsko - kremnický cyklookruh” passes through Ihráč.

Leisure

The municipality has a leisure facility with an artificial water reservoir. During the summer months, swimming and relaxation in natural surroundings are possible there. The leisure facility is located 4 kilometres from Ihráč. Access by motor vehicle is prohibited, except for visitors who have rented the leisure facility.
