The thermal springs in Sklené Teplice have a water temperature of 28 to 53 °C; there are 14 thermal springs in total. A special experience is Parenica: the naturally formed cave steam bath contains hyperthermal water at 42 °C and is considered a Slovak and European unique feature. The water in the cave bath comes directly from a thermal spring.

The bathing facilities also combine warmth with distinctive design elements. Kúpeľ Márie Terézie is a thermal pool designed in the antique style, with a stained-glass section in the roof. Banský kúpeľ contains a replica of Botticelli’s fresco “The Birth of Venus”. The Termálne kúpalisko Sklené Teplice thermal bathing complex also includes a children’s pool with a water temperature of 32 °C.

Spa tradition, architecture and small discoveries

The alkaline-gypsum mineral springs with a cave bath were already known in Sklené Teplice in the 16th century. Kúpele Sklené Teplice are among the oldest spa resorts in Slovakia. The spa salon was built between 1837 and 1839 as a Neoclassical spa pavilion with a circular floor plan. In its historic building, the Kursalon Café offers coffee, soft drinks and cakes from an in-house bakery. The town’s history also includes Ignác Anton von Born, who operated an amalgamation works in Sklené Teplice. The Neoclassical Church of St. Luke was built between 1807 and 1811.

The spa park stretches along the valley and gradually transitions into a forest park. It offers easy walks in pleasant surroundings. Visitors can taste medicinal mineral springs there; quiet areas with benches and pavilions provide additional places to relax. There is a small lake behind the Goethe spa house. A spring with a temperature of 42 °C emerges in a room of one of the spa houses, forming a reddish travertine waterfall.

Hiking to Teplica Castle

A hiking trail to Teplica Castle begins in Sklené Teplice on the yellow-marked trail and then joins the green-marked trail to the ruins. The hike is considered a moderately difficult route of about 4.7 kilometers, with a duration of approximately two hours. The remains of Teplica Castle lie in the hills above Sklené Teplice and date from the 14th century. This allows you to combine a stay at the thermal spa with a historical discovery and exercise in the hilly countryside.

For longer tours, the fifth stage of the Barborská cesta leads from Sklené Teplice to Banská Štiavnica and is 12.8 kilometers long. Hliník nad Hronom railway station is 8 km from Sklené Teplice. The different lengths and characteristics of the trails help you organize day plans according to your interests and fitness level. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore consider whether thermal baths, the spa park, a short hike, culture or a longer stage should be the focus of your stay.
