Culture

Kosorín’s cultural heritage includes the Church of St. Ladislaus. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument under number Ss/1235 in the ÚZKP. At the same time, it is considered Kosorín’s oldest monument and was built in the Classicist style. The church acquired its present appearance through reconstruction carried out between 1926 and 1928.

The church also contains a small bell dating from 1624. Its Latin inscription reads “SOLI DEO ET HONOR ET GLORIA ANNO DOMINI J-624”. In addition to its architectural classification, the building thus preserves a specific historical detail from the 17th century.

Kosorín’s public life includes its multifunctional hall. It is open to the entire public and is used extensively for cultural and sporting activities.

Landscape

Kosorín lies on the northern edge of the Žiarska kotlina basin, which is located in the Kremnické vrchy mountains. Elevations in Kosorín range from 352 to 931 metres; the village centre lies at 370 metres.

The Kosorínsky potok stream flows through Kosorín. There, it receives the Klokočský potok and later flows into the Lutilský potok. The watercourse is thus described by its course through Kosorín, the incorporation of the tributary, and its later confluence with the Lutilský potok.

Kosorín can be reached via a class III road through Janova Lehota or Slaská. In addition, a narrow field road leads from Kosorín to Lutila.

Remembrance

A monument in the Kosorín cemetery commemorates 42 partisans and three residents who lost their lives in the fields of Kosorín from 24 to 26 September 1944. The T34 tank is one of Kosorín’s significant monuments.

One of the two legends associated with Kosorín tells of a skilled scythe maker: He sold scythes to royal mowers and also made them as weapons; according to the legend, people used them to defend themselves against the Turks.
