Horná Ves is situated in the picturesque landscape of the Kremnické vrchy and at the confluence of the Lúčanský potok and Rudnica streams. Nature

The landscape around Horná Ves connects the Kremnické vrchy with the confluence of the Lúčanský potok and Rudnica streams. The location provides a clear setting for walks and more demanding hikes. A special connection to Kremnica is provided by the second section of the Kremnica hiking trail: It leads from Ihráč to Nevoľné and from there along a yellow-marked route to Horná Ves. In the village, it continues along a blue-marked route back to Kremnica. The route to Kremnický štít is also part of an educational trail.

Culture

In the centre of Horná Ves stands a national cultural monument from the Baroque period, featuring a sculpture of the Holy Trinity dating from 1710. The Baroque Trinity Column is a votive ensemble created after the plague epidemic of 1710. In 1776, it was transferred from Kremnica to Horná Ves; before that, it had stood in front of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kremnica.

History

At the southern entrance to the village is the portal of the Hlboká adit. The adit was driven from 1519 to 1613 and is 7,050 metres long. It served for drainage, transport and exploration. The Hlavná adit also runs beneath Horná Ves and is 15,821 metres long. Near Žiar nad Hronom, it empties into the Hron River.

These underground facilities are closely connected with the history of gold mining in Kremnica. The Primaverka hydroelectric power station also points to this connection: It was built in Horná Ves in 1896 with an output of 110 kW and served to power mining machinery in the fourth shaft in Kremnica. Another distinctive feature of the local mining history is the ochre extracted from the mine water of the Hlboká adit. During the First Czechoslovak Republic, it was processed by Farbová továreň bratov Strobentzových in Horná Ves and sold as a dye to the chemical industry.

Trails and activities

In addition to the hiking connections, Horná Ves has a multipurpose sports area as part of its local amenities. It is intended for volleyball, basketball and nohejbal. In winter, the area becomes an ice rink for hockey players and ice skaters. Thus, alongside the trails through the Kremnické vrchy, sporting opportunities directly in the village are also a central feature.
