Trnavá Hora: Holiday Apartment Amid Mountains, Trails and Culture

Trnavá Hora combines marked trails with a landscape extending into two mountain ranges, as well as cultural sites in Trnavá Hora, Kľačany and Jalná. Those who view a holiday apartment in Trnavá Hora as a base will therefore find a variety of settings here: from trails through spring and valley sections to the Hron, churches, memorial sites and events featuring traditional crafts.

Landscape and trails

The municipal area of Trnavá Hora extends into the Kremnica Mountains and the Štiavnica Mountains. Trnavá Hora lies on the southern slope of the Kremnica Mountains, Kľačany in the eastern part of this mountain range, while Jalná lies on the northern slopes of the Štiavnica Mountains in a narrow valley of the Hron. This geographical layout becomes particularly tangible along the Budiná hiking trail: the trail, marked in yellow and red, begins at the bus stop by the parish office in Trnavá Hora.

From there, the Budiná hiking trail leads through Kľačany to a forestry hut. At this point, it turns sharply toward the Budiná spring, continues through the Hrabíky valley to the Snoža spring, and then descends to the trail junction near Jastrabský mlyn. Another route through the Kľačianska Valley is recommended for cyclists. The Hron flows through Trnavá Hora and offers water sports enthusiasts the opportunity to navigate it during the summer months.

Culture and local history

Trnavá Hora is home to the Parish Church of Saint John of Nepomuk. Dating from 1775, it was built in the Baroque-Classical style and is listed as a cultural monument. In Jalná, a wooden nativity scene exhibition has been on display at the cultural center since December 23, 2007.

At the beginning of Trnavá Hora’s upper district, Námestíčko Mekyho Žbirku is located on a small area below the wall of his father’s birthplace. The square is marked by a bust of Miroslav “Miro” Žbirka, created by Mgr. Art. Svetozár Ilavský. Beneath it stands a symbolic Bratislava bench. In Kľačany, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus features a wall design by Hanula.

The SNP Monument in Kľačany also preserves a specific memory: it commemorates Peter Kubík, an International Brigades volunteer and commander of the 1st Battalion of Captain Ján Nálepka’s partisan brigade. Peter Kubík fell there in combat against the German occupiers on October 10, 1944.

Crafts and regional cuisine

Kľačany is also home to the event “Starosvetská mlatba a remeslá,” which showcases traditional working and craft techniques. At the 2024 edition, adults and children were able to try, among other things, pottery, threshing grain, tying sheaves and blacksmithing. The same edition offered goulash, including pork and tripe goulash, buchty, strudel, curd cheese cake and other homemade specialties.

In 2026, Kľačany hosted the 15th edition of “Starosvetská mlatba a remeslá.” It carried the subtitle “Starším pre spomienku, mladým pre poučenie” – for the older generation to remember, and for the younger generation to learn. In Kľačany, practical activities and culinary elements thus stand alongside the historical connection of the event.
