The Musée Rodin Meudon brings together the house, studio and park as a single visitor experience focused on Rodin’s sculpture and his world. The Galerie des plâtres at the Musée Rodin Meudon displays sculptures in successive states, enabling visitors to understand the stages of Rodin’s creative process. Rodin’s grave is located in the park, with The Thinker standing on it and facing the Seine Valley. The Musée Rodin Meudon also runs arts and cultural education projects for young people of all ages and backgrounds. The Villa des Brillants was Rodin’s home during the last 20 years of his life.
Culture and history
Hauts-de-Seine offers a wide range of cultural, historical and artistic visits throughout the département. At Sèvres – Cité de la Céramique, art ceramics, reproductions of historic models and contemporary creations are made using traditional craft techniques. The Musée de la Céramique in Sèvres traces the history of ceramics around the world.
The Musée départemental de Sceaux presents French taste through paintings, graphic arts, furniture and art objects. The Musée du Domaine départemental de Sceaux offers guided tours, workshops, courses and themed conferences. Visitors can ride in boats on the Grand Canal of the Domaine départemental de Sceaux. The Parc départemental Gauthier Mougin contains a sculpture trail with around twenty works.
Parks and landscapes
The Domaine national de Saint-Cloud offers 460 hectares of gardens, fountains and sculptures. The Parc de Saint-Cloud has been listed as a historic monument since 9 November 1994. The Domaine départemental de Sceaux covers 152 hectares and includes vistas designed by Le Nôtre. The Parc départemental des Chanteraines extends over 82 hectares with lawns, valleys and groves.
The Parc nautique départemental de l’Île de Monsieur is an ecological park with promenades, leisure areas and rare preserved plants.
Walking and cycling
La Seine à vélo offers more than 400 kilometres of cycling routes connecting Paris, Rouen, Le Havre and Deauville. La Véloscénie connects Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel via a 450-kilometre cycling route. Hauts-de-Seine offers 29 walking loops and cycling stages for exploring the département. There are also twelve cycling tours classified by difficulty, generally covering 12 to 18 kilometres.
Mobility
Vélib’ métropole offers conventional and electric bicycles, as well as pass options for 24 hours and three days.
