Rueil-Malmaison: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Culture

The Église Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul has been listed as a historic monument since 1941. It houses the tombs of Joséphine de Beauharnais and her daughter, Queen Hortense. The church also has an organ case donated by Napoléon III and signed by Bacchio d’Agnolo.

The Château de Malmaison displays furniture, paintings, porcelain and weapons from the early period of Napoléon I’s reign. The reconstructed historic rooms include Napoléon’s mahogany library and Joséphine’s oval bedroom.

The Musée d’Histoire Locale de Rueil-Malmaison is located in the city’s former town hall. It traces the development of Rueil-Malmaison from its medieval origins under Charles the Bald to the present day and hosts temporary exhibitions every year.

Nature

The Parc de Bois-Préau covers 17 hectares and preserves an English garden design dating from the late 18th century. A central lawn is used for picnics.

The Forêt domaniale de la Malmaison covers 200 hectares and offers opportunities for walkers, cyclists and joggers. At the Étang de Saint-Cucufa, visitors can observe fish, amphibians and ducks.

The Parc des Impressionnistes features a small pond and perennial plants. It also includes a rose garden and a white garden.

Experiences

Visits and activities are organised at the Ferme du Mont-Valérien all year round. The educational programme focuses on the processing of agricultural products, including wheat, flour and bread.

The Parc des bords de Seine has boules courts, a picnic area and tennis courts. It also provides a pedestrian route from the banks of the Seine via the Plaine des Closeaux to the Forêt domaniale de la Malmaison.

The Impressionist Trail starts at the Parc des Impressionnistes. At each stop, there is an information panel with a text, a work of art and a QR code leading to additional audio content. The trail invites visitors to stroll along the banks of the Seine and through the centre of Rueil-Malmaison, following in the footsteps of Impressionism.
