In Suresnes, memorial sites on Mont-Valérien stand alongside examples of social housing development and a winemaking tradition. Those who choose Suresnes as a travel destination want to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture

On 17 and 18 June 1960, 16 sets of mortal remains were transferred to the crypt of the tomb, and the Mémorial de la France combattante was inaugurated by General de Gaulle. The American Military Cemetery in Suresnes is the only American military cemetery in Europe that commemorates both world wars.

The Cité-jardins de Suresnes was created in the 1920s on the initiative of Henri Sellier. It is an example of social housing development that combines housing, green spaces and public facilities, and bears the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” label. The MUS – Musée d’histoire Urbaine et Sociale de Suresnes is a “Musée de France” dedicated to social housing development during the interwar period.

At Mont-Valérien, there is a permanent exhibition entitled “Résistance et répression, 1940–1944”. The memorial site is open from Tuesday to Sunday and offers free guided tours lasting around 1.5 hours; reservations are possible and recommended.

Wine

The Suresnes vineyard is planted with Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The Association du Clos du Pas Saint-Maurice offers regular free cellar tours in the presence of the winemaker. In association with the Confrérie du vin de Suresnes, it also organises ceremonial induction ceremonies, which take place twice a year.

Nature

“Le Mont-Valérien et ses alentours” is a moderately difficult circular hike covering 6.7 km, with a total elevation gain of 180 m. The starting point and destination are at the Suresnes Longchamps tram stop. At Mont-Valérien, you can walk along various paths, including the Promenade Jacques-Baumel.

The Terrasse du Fécheray at the foot of Mont-Valérien offers views of Paris landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Panthéon and Montmartre.
