The Étangs de Meudon are biodiverse sites in a forest close to the city. They play an important role in forest ecosystems: amphibians such as frogs, toads and newts, dragonflies, and birds such as grey herons and mallards depend on these habitats.

The Forêt domaniale de Meudon is home to numerous ponds that shape the landscape and are popular places for walkers, people engaging in sports and anglers. Most of Meudon's ponds were created in the 17th century by Abel Servien, the Marquis de Sablé and de Boisdauphin, and subsequently by François Michel Le Tellier, the Marquis de Louvois, to supply water to the gardens of the Château de Meudon.

Culture

Rodin lived the last 20 years of his life at the Villa des Brillants. The artist's house features a dining room, an adjoining salon and a studio.

At the Musée Rodin Meudon, the house, studio and park come together to offer an insight into Rodin's sculptures and his world. Hangar Y was built in 1879 from parts of the Galerie des Machines at the World's Fair. On the 9-hectare site of Hangar Y in the park of Chalais-Meudon, part of the 17th-century French formal garden has been preserved.

“L’Épopée du Hangar Y” complements this historic site with a 30-minute immersive and interactive mixed-reality experience. Visitors use the provided headsets to immerse themselves in the site's past.
