Skåne combines cliffs dropping steeply into the sea and expansive beaches with lush green forests in central Skåne, as well as forest and lake landscapes in the north. The highest peak of Stenshuvud is 97 metres high and offers views over Hanö Bay; on clear days, Bornholm is visible. Naturum Stenshuvud is the national park’s visitor centre at the main entrance. There is an exhibition about the park, as well as staff who answer questions.

Nature

Stenshuvud National Park combines coastal hills, deciduous forest, heathland and beaches; paths lead to viewpoints overlooking the sea. Hallands Väderö nature reserve also features a distinctive coastal landscape: it provides breeding grounds for seabirds, while harbour seals can often be observed on the rocks along the shores.

At Kullaberg, diving, snorkelling and kayaking are possible along the coast. The marked paths lead from the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula towards Arild or Mölle through lush deciduous forests and flower-rich pastures. The waters around Kullaberg are a habitat for harbour porpoises, which can be observed from the cliffs.

Hiking

The Skåneleden runs through the whole of Skåne and is a 1,600-kilometre hiking system with six subsections and 113 sections marked with orange signs. Bus route 518 stops at both entrances to Söderåsen National Park. Hikes in the forests around Hovdala at Lake Finjasjön can be started from Hässleholm Central Station; the station can be reached by bus or train.

Culture

The Museum of Sketches houses the world’s largest collection of sketches and preparatory work for public art. Every week, the museum offers public guided tours of the temporary exhibition and the collection in Swedish and English; the tours are included in the admission fee.

Glimmingehus can be explored on guided tours or independently. The rooms feature sensor-operated information panels and a digital guide. The historic site also includes a museum, the Borggården café and a visitor shop. In the east wing, known as Roaster’s House, workshops on medieval crafts and public activities take place.

Bosjökloster combines 900 years of history with exhibitions, animal enclosures and gardens in a natural setting by Lake Ringsjön. The exhibitions are located in the castle and outbuildings; the park also includes a thousand-year-old oak tree.

Trelleborgen is a partial reconstruction of the former Viking fortress that the Viking king Harald Bluetooth had built at this site in the 10th century and after which the town of Trelleborg was named. Ales stenar is an Iron Age stone monument consisting of 59 large stones arranged in the shape of a 67-metre-long ship, dating approximately from between 500 and 1000 AD.

The Tycho Brahe memorial sites on Ven include the archaeological remains of Uraniborg Castle and the Stjärneborg observatory, Uraniborg’s reconstructed Renaissance garden, and the All Saints’ Church. Kulturen in Lund is an open-air museum with historic houses and gardens, as well as around twenty exhibitions on local and global culture. Wanås Konst is a sculpture park and art experience with more than 50 permanent works by international contemporary artists, as well as additional guest exhibitions.

Sofiero Palace and Palace Gardens can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car or by bus. The Museum of Technology and Maritime History presents exhibitions on the history of science, the sea, shipping, vehicles and watercraft, as well as the Wisdome visualisation centre with a dome cinema presentation. Fredriksdal’s exhibitions cover nature, animals, culture and art; Fredriksdal also offers theatre performances and walking productions. Several types of courses and lectures are held there every year, including courses on restoring historic windows, traditional garden maintenance and cooking.

A regional speciality is Spettekaka. The cake is made from dough drizzled onto a rotating wooden spit. Traditionally, it was baked over an open fire; today, it is prepared in special rotating ovens.
