Lomma: Coast, Nature and Culture

The municipality of Lomma has a 21-kilometre coastline. Swimming is possible year-round in Lomma and Bjärred. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are practised along the coast and in the coastal areas of Lomma.

This coast is home to Bjärred and Lomma.

Coast, Harbour and Water

Lomma Beach is located north of the harbour entrance and close to restaurants and other services. Volleyball and football courts are directly adjacent. The Strandfuret walking area is next to Lomma Beach. A wooden walkway leads down to the beach from the seafront promenade or Stiltjeplatsen.

Hamnhusen and T-bryggan are located near the centre of Lomma, the bus stops and the harbour area. T-bryggan has an accessible bathing ramp and a bathing wheelchair. In addition to commercial fishing and a marina, Lomma harbour also has restaurants and cafés; the marina has 500 berths. Långa Bryggan in Bjärred is approximately 500 metres long and ends at a cold-bathing house and a restaurant.

Paths by the Water

Strandstråket is a coastal walking and strolling path from the Spillepeng recreational area in the south to the Lödde å in the north. Some sections of Strandstråket are paved and wheelchair accessible. Skåneleden stages 11, 12 and 13 run through Lomma; together, these stages form a 19-kilometre route.

Lomma railway station is nine minutes by train from the centre of Malmö. Lomma also has a network of cycle paths connecting the municipality with neighbouring municipalities.

Nature and Landscape

The marine Strandhusens revlar nature reserve is located southwest of Lomma in the southern Lommabukten; its sandbanks are important for coastal and seabirds. The southern Löddeåns mynning nature reserve lies on the border between Lomma and Kävlinge, is part of the Natura 2000 network and has walking paths and barbecue areas along the river. Domedejla mosse is a 12-hectare nature reserve with wooded areas, bodies of water and a hay meadow.

At the mouth of the Lödde å there is a birdwatching tower that can be used year-round for birdwatching. Öresundsparken nature reserve is used for birdwatching. Lödde kar at the mouth of the Lödde å is an approximately 160-metre-long stone wall and is considered to be the remains of a Viking harbour.

Alnarpsparken has one of Sweden’s largest plant collections, particularly of trees and shrubs. Parts of an elm forest from the 18th century are still preserved today. Alnarpsparken offers space for recreation and walks.

Walks and Running Routes

Habo Fure has a three-kilometre forest running loop with a natural surface. Fladängsparken has an approximately 400-metre loop around the park and along the Höje å, suitable for short intervals. Karstorp has a varied, one-kilometre running loop that is accessible outside school hours.

Fishing

Fishing in Lomma includes sea fly-fishing and catching pike with a wobbling lure. The section of the fishing area in Lomma Municipality extends from the railway bridge northeast of Habo gård to the coast and also includes Habo dammar. A valid fishing licence or proof of fishing rights is required for fishing at Slättängsdammen.

A valid fishing licence is required for fishing in the Höje å and Habo dammar for people over the age of 12; it is free for young people up to and including the age of 15, and entitles the holder to fish with a hand-held fishing tackle.

Culture and History

Lomma’s local history includes its development into an industrial municipality in the 19th century, initially through brickworks and later through cement production. A brick unloading hall from the second half of the 19th century is the preserved relic of Skånska Cementaktiebolaget’s first cement factory.

Kraften is a former power station in Lomma and is used for cultural-historical and art exhibitions. Kraften is a square transformer station made of red brickwork, built in 1908. Lomma kyrka was built in 1872 from yellow machine-made bricks and inaugurated in 1873. It has a reconstructed altar from the oldest church as well as six painted panels from the 18th century.

Lomma Folkets Hus was completed in 1898 and is one of the oldest Folkets Hus buildings in the country. It is a venue for culture, entertainment and community and regularly offers various cultural and entertainment programmes. Lomma Konstförening has exhibited art in Lomma since 1955.

The Alnarpsmuseerna comprise three museums and a permanent exhibition on the history of Alnarp.
