Holiday apartment in Osby: Discover lakes, forests and culture

Osby is located in the coniferous forest region in northeastern Skåne, in a landscape with several lakes, of which Osbysjön is the largest. Osby Municipality offers deep forests, flowering meadows, numerous lakes and 238 islands for visitors to discover. The combination of nature, water and culture creates very different impressions – from quiet forest paths to places where the region’s history remains visible.

Nature and lakes

Näset is located on a peninsula in Osbysjön and is a municipal nature reserve with grazed wet meadows and water-filled former diatomite pits. The peninsula also has two marked circular trails measuring 1.4 and 1.8 kilometres respectively. The approximately three-kilometre hiking trail around Hjärtasjön also passes through mixed forest and offers views of the lake.

There is a car park at the Nytebodaskogen nature reserve. The Skåneleden, SL1 Kust till kust, Stage 5, runs east–west through Nyteboda; the reserve also has a circular trail of a few kilometres. Nytebodaskogen is the only coniferous forest in Skåne resembling a natural forest and contains pine trees more than 200 years old.

Hiking and trails

The marked Klinten circular trail is approximately two kilometres long. Klinten has a viewpoint with views stretching for kilometres over Osby and the lake. The entire circular trail can be walked with a pram. In Osby Municipality, cycle paths run through deep forests, along glistening lakes and across open fields.

At Örnanäs, visitors can walk through the historic farm landscape among buildings, house foundations, fields and meadows. This means that different landscape views lie side by side along short and longer paths, without any additional features having to be added for this purpose.

Water and fishing

Fishing in Osbysjön is free for beginners and experienced anglers. Species found there include carp, pike, perch, burbot and trout. Quiet family paddling is possible around the Näset peninsula.

A short, calm and beginner-friendly paddling route on the Helge å runs between Kornberga and Visseltofta and is suitable for adults and children. Skeingesjön and the Helge å offer varied fishing waters with many fish species; there is also a boat launch at the northern end of the lake. Trout can be caught in running and calm water along the approximately 20-kilometre stretch of river between Delaryd and Hästberga.

Culture and history

Sliperiet Gylsboda has a permanent exhibition featuring old images from diabase mining at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as an exhibition about minerals and fossils. Sibbarps skans was built during the Kalmar War from 1611 to 1613 to reinforce the Danish-Swedish border.

The exhibitions at Lekoseum present the history of BRIO – from the first toy made in 1907 and the classic Osby horse to the popular wooden railway from 1958. Örnanäs is the first cultural reserve in Skåne; the entire cultural-historical environment is protected there, including the landscape, buildings, knowledge and traditions.

Getting around

Along the Glimåkra–Osby section of the Skåneleden, there is a bus stop in Glimåkra and a train connection in Osby.
