Klippan: Holiday apartment between hiking trails, water and culture

In Klippan, short distances, river landscapes and cultural sites come together. Several signposted routes lead around the town through built-up areas, along waterways and into natural forests. There is also a distinctive church, evidence of railway and industrial history, as well as opportunities for cycling, canoeing and relaxing hours.

Nature

Åslingan begins at Elfdalens Motionsanläggning. It is located next to the campsite in the eastern built-up area of Klippan. Åslingan is 3.1 kilometres long; the section north of the Bäljane å is 3.6 kilometres long. A short side trail is Sagostigen, with wooden sculptures for younger hikers. Elfdalsslingan forms a 3-kilometre-long, illuminated loop.

In the centre of Klippan, Cösterslingan begins at Läderbackarna and leads towards the allotment-garden area on Kolonigatan. Blomgrens promenad also runs through the central areas of the built-up part of the town. The hiking trail is approximately 2.5 kilometres long. A map of Blomgrens promenad, showing the route and sights, is available at the Klippan library or municipal hall.

In places, Elfdalsslingan follows the Bäljane å. With a little luck, grey wagtails, white-throated dippers and common sandpipers can be spotted there. Paths and walking trails close to the river run alongside the paper mill on the Rönne å. Thus, both short town loops and routes by the water form part of the landscape around Klippan.

Water

The Rönne å near Klippan offers calm, mirror-smooth stretches as well as wild rapids. The Rönneå canoe route in Klippan Municipality is part of an 85-kilometre-long route between Västra Ringsjön and Skälderviken. A canoe trip on the Rönne å from Djupadalsmölla to Herrevadskloster is approximately 16 kilometres long and takes about five hours.

There is also a special route between Klippan and Ljungbyhed: a 13-kilometre-long rail-bike journey can be taken through natural oak and beech forests. The starting point is at the station in Nybygget. The combination of river, forest and railway line reveals several different sides of the surroundings without reducing them to a single type of landscape.

Culture

S:t Petri Church stands centrally in Klippan’s town park. It was built in 1962–1966 to a design by Sigurd Lewerentz. Its furnishings include a double tapestry created by Sven X:et Eriksson and woven by Barbro Nilsson, an ivory crucifix designed by Christian Berg, and the outdoor sculpture “Nådens skålar” created by Christian Berg.

Askahuset was built in 1864–1865 by Deputy District Judge Fritz Ask. A more recent artistic trace is the public sculpture “Fredsfågel” by Antonio Pasquini from 2018. It stands at the intersection of Allégatan and Järnvägsgatan in Klippan.

The Blomgren Photo Archive preserves environmental, group and portrait photographs from 1897 to the beginning of the 1950s. The images can be viewed in the libraries of Klippan Municipality. Folkets hus/Kulturcenter was completed in 1907. Historically, celebrations, weddings, meetings, soirees, anniversaries, parades and theatre events were held in the building and the adjacent park.

History

Klippan’s railway area preserves a well-preserved station building as well as an engine shed and a water tower from the steam-locomotive era. Industrial history is also present along the Rönne å: Klippans paper mill lies south of the built-up area of Klippan on this river. Paper production in Klippan and around the Rönne å has a long tradition.

Klippan Yllefabrik began in 1879 on Järnvägsgatan in Klippan as a small wool spinning mill. Today, Klippan Yllefabrik has a factory shop with its regular range and outlet products. This connects the early industrial development and a present-day sales area associated with the factory in one place.

Things to do

One route of Cykelleden Skåne starts and ends at Klippan station. The seventh stage of Cykelleden Skåne 101 connects Klippan and Åstorp on a 14.9-kilometre-long route described as easy. For further activities in the town, Sågen Activity House in Klippan, Ängelholmsgatan 1–9, is open to the general public. Klippans badhus offers public swimming, a warm-water pool, sauna, steam room and a fitness room.

The Söderåsen National Park is among the excursion destinations named by Klippan Municipality. In addition, the local pages for Färingtofta, Hyllstofta, Klippan, Ljungbyhed and Öja lead to further destinations at this level.
