Klippan: Culture, Walking Trails and Special Excursions
Accommodation in Klippan
Klippan combines local history, art and varied trails into a destination that can be explored at different paces. The centre is home to traces of culture and shops, while walking trails along the Bäljane å, shorter hiking options and excursions through oak and beech forests add further highlights. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you are mainly planning central discoveries, exercise in nature or a varied mix for several generations.
Walks, Railbike and Waterways
For a short circuit through the town, Blomgrens promenad is a good option. The walking trail is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and leads through the central parts of Klippan. Another option is Cösterslingan: it begins in the centre at Läderbackarna and runs along the Bäljane å towards the allotment garden area on Kolonigatan. At Elfdalen, you can also follow the Bäljane å on easily accessible walking paths.
Those planning a longer route will find Åslingan, a 3,100-metre-long trail. It begins at Elfdalens Motionsanläggning in the eastern part of Klippan. Sagostigen, on the other hand, is a short loop with wooden sculptures for younger hikers and is therefore suitable as a separate, compact activity during a shared excursion. A railbike ride is also possible between Klippan and Ljungbyhed. The route there and back is 13 kilometres long and leads through scenic oak and beech forests.
The surrounding area can also be explored on the water: within the municipality of Klippans kommun, the Rönneå canoe route forms part of the 85-kilometre-long route between Västra Ringsjön and Skälderviken. The route complements the land-based trails with another way to experience the landscape.
Railway History, Architecture and Art
Klippan’s railway surroundings include a well-preserved station building, an engine shed and a water tower from the steam locomotive era. These buildings give the town’s history a tangible form. The industrial history also includes the Klippans Chromläderfabrik, which was built and began production in 1906, as well as the former site of the Läderfabriken, which is now a pleasant area for walking and recreation. The history of the family-owned company Klippan Yllefabrik AB dates back to its foundation in 1879.
Those interested in older buildings can view Askahuset on Storgatan. It was built in 1864–1865 by deputy district judge Fritz Ask. The old courthouse was built in 1823. A much later architectural feature is S:t Petri kyrka: it was designed and constructed by Sigurd Lewerentz between 1962 and 1966 and is centrally located in Klippan, in the town park. Tours of the church can be booked through the parish office.
The art in the town includes Antonio Pasquini’s marble sculpture “Fredsfågel” from 2018. It stands at the intersection of Allégatan and Järnvägsgatan in Klippan. There is a brochure with maps for the various works of art in Klippan, which can help guide you on your own discovery tour.
Choose a Holiday Apartment to Suit Your Daily Plans
For a culture-oriented stay, a location in Klippan is particularly interesting if you would like to include S:t Petri kyrka, the works of art, the railway surroundings and the historic buildings in your plans. Storgatan has many shops with a diverse range of products, as well as several restaurants and cafés. The Klippan Yllefabrik factory shop is also located in the centre, in historic premises. Home textiles, interior accessories, yarn and supplies are sold there.
If walks and different routes are the main focus of your trip, the starting points of the trails may play an important role in your choice of accommodation. This allows you to choose a holiday apartment in Klippan according to your preferred daily rhythm: centrally located for sightseeing and shopping, or with particular attention to the planned trails and excursions. For families with different interests, the combination of a short loop, riverside paths, local history and a railbike ride makes it possible to vary the individual days without giving all experiences equal weight.
