Hörby combines nature experiences, signposted trails and culture within a compact regional area. The Fulltofta recreational area in Hörby Municipality comprises deep forests, open clearings, pastureland, heaths, ancient oaks, ponds and small streams. In Ringsjöparken, the Hörbyån runs through the entire length of the park, which combines green spaces, open areas, perennial beds and walking paths. If you choose a holiday apartment in Hörby or a holiday home as a base for a variety of holiday days, you will find both active and more relaxing activities here.
Nature, Wildlife and Signposted Hiking Trails
Fulltofta has fourteen signposted hiking trails, including Vasahusslingan, Dansbanerundan, Sjömossen and Magnhilds runda. Fulltofta-Häggenäs is one of the nature reserves within the Fulltofta recreational area. The landscape also includes numerous prehistoric fields as well as fieldstone cairns and cultivation cairns from the Stone Age; many of these traces are marked on the area map. The stork enclosure in Fulltofta contains a 2,500-square-metre flight aviary with nesting sites and around thirty pairs of storks.
Trails with different profiles and lengths are available for various active days. Ravinslingan in Fulltofta is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Olofs is an eight-kilometre hiking loop through natural areas with numerous cultural-historical traces, while Pickelhattakroken is a seven-kilometre loop near Fjällmossen Nature Reserve. Hörby Municipality also has two riding loops of approximately 16 kilometres each, as well as a 40-kilometre riding and driving trail. A mountain bike trail and a riding trail are located around Fulltofta Nature Centre. For longer tours, the 43-kilometre Banvallsled connects Hörby, Tollarp and Kristianstad; asphalt and gravel roads pass old station houses and railway crossing keepers’ cottages. Hörby MTB Arena is designed as an XCO mountain bike course with varied terrain and technical obstacles.
Holiday Apartment in Hörby between the Park, Trails and Nature Centre
Hörby itself also offers specific destinations for short routes and varied parts of the day. The Erik Myrgrens promenadstråk begins in Ringsjöparken and leads to Nygatan. Karnas backe has illuminated fitness and running trails, an 18-hole disc golf course and the Kultur-rundan. It uses seven information boards featuring stories and archive photographs about the area’s past.
Fulltofta Nature Centre provides information about hiking, maps, nature exhibitions, a café and meeting facilities. The café serves homemade lunches, fika and filled or savoury sandwiches. For travel by regional bus, route 469 connects Höör and Hörby at weekends and stops at Fulltofta Nature Centre. Bus 470, which runs daily, stops along Road 13. From the “Ramstorp Fulltofta” stop, the path leads directly to the red loop; from there it is approximately 1.5 kilometres to the Nature Centre.
History and Special Cultural Destinations
The Ola Ols Museum in Killhult has more than 3,000 objects; the collections span from the 18th century to the present day. The museum has a ramp and an adapted toilet for visitors. In Önneköp, the old General Store Museum preserves the shop fittings and some partly very old goods that remained after the store closed in 1982. Visitors can walk through the old shop with or without a guided tour. Arnolds Kannibalmuseum is also located in Önneköp, a curiosity museum with artefacts from around the world.
The S:ta Magnhilds källa spring south of Fulltofta Nature Centre is associated with S:ta Magnhild, who is regarded as one of Skåne’s most significant local saints. In Östra Sallerup, the Renaissance-inspired park dates from the 1680s, has a central axis and is divided into four areas. The park includes Karl XI:s stenar, ponds, a canal system and a surrounding stone wall. Groups can book guided tours of the park and exhibition room at other times. Hörby Museum is currently closed as a visitor destination because full accessibility cannot be guaranteed.
Family Activities, Food and Events
Lågedammsbadet has indoor pools and an outdoor pool in summer. It also includes a sauna, a hot tub, a children’s pool and a water slide. Högalunds Kulturvandring combines a guided nature experience with Skåne history and a picnic on the heath or pastureland. At Tilia Trädgård & Natur, guided visits introduce edible garden plants and their use as food.
The event calendar also shapes Hörby’s character. Hörby Marknad is a two-day tradition in July dating back to 1748, offering more than 400 market stalls, music, a fairground, a food street and a small-animal market. Hörby Kulturkalas takes place every year in May and features music, dance, art, as well as performances by local and national artists. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore set your preferred focus among nature, activity, history, swimming facilities and events.
