Discover Sodrarorum: Nature, Culture and Special Excursions
Accommodation in Sodrarorum
Sodrarorum combines a distinctive cultural landscape with special nature experiences and a long ecclesiastical history. Situated on the slope of a ridge, Södra Rörum offers various starting points for planning your trip: you can explore wooded heights and bogs, visit a historic church, discover gardens with a large rose collection or go fishing in the surrounding area. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore worth considering first whether nature, culture, an excursion with children or travelling together in a larger group is your main priority.
Landscape in the Hjällen Nature Reserve
In the Hjällen Nature Reserve, wooded heights, wet bogs and grazed fälad pastures meet. Large parts of the beech forest have remained largely untouched since the 19th century. This combination of woodland, open grazing land and wet habitats defines the character of the area and makes Hjällen a rewarding destination for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors.
In the nature reserve, you can also easily walk around without paths. This offers a different way of experiencing the landscape than following a set route through individual sights. Plan your stay according to your preferred way of travelling: those mainly seeking nature observations and peaceful impressions can make Hjällen a focus in its own right. Södra Rörum itself is a cultural landscape with valuable flora and complements the natural environment with the human-shaped side of the area.
Church History and Local Traditions
There has been a church in Södra Rörum since the 11th or 12th century. The present-day Södra Rörum Church was built between 1884 and 1887 and replaced an older medieval church on this site. This makes it possible to view the development of the village over several centuries without equating the age of the present church with that of its predecessor.
Local traditions also include a traditional Midsummer celebration at Husaren in Södra Rörum. The festival includes hobby-horse riding for children and adults. If you are travelling with several generations, this tradition provides a specific opportunity to engage with local events and Swedish festive traditions. Husaren offers rooms in various sizes as well as a well-equipped kitchen with tableware for 100 people. The premises can be booked for a meeting or celebration.
Gardens, Roses and Fishing
The garden at Södra Rörum 4189 adds a splash of colour to the woodland and grazing landscape. Around one hundred perennials and shrubs grow in large beds. There is also a growing collection of 360 rose varieties. You can include the garden as a destination in its own right in your daily itinerary and experience the difference between a designed plant collection and the open landscapes of Hjällen.
In the surrounding area of Södra Rörum, Lake Kvesarum offers fishing opportunities from Stegen and designated fishing spots. Float fishing, spin fishing and fly fishing are recommended. Those who enjoy adding a specific water-based activity to their trip can take these opportunities into account when choosing their own excursions.
The Right Base for Your Trip
When choosing your holiday apartment or holiday home, you can decide on your preferred focus: should the trip mainly be shaped by impressions of the landscape in the nature reserve, or would you like to explore the history and traditions of Södra Rörum in greater depth? This decision helps you align your excursion planning with your personal travel style.
