Nature

The Hovdala Nature Reserve is located on Lake Finjasjön. Hovdala is protected both as a nature reserve and as a Natura 2000 site. The wildlife is also noteworthy: 18 of Sweden’s 19 bat species occur in the area.

The Göingeåsen Nature Reserve is dominated by deciduous woodland. From the Spraglerödshall viewpoint in the Göingeåsen area, there are views of Lake Finjasjön and the fields of Hovdala.

Hiking

The Vieåleden circular hiking trail is 11 kilometres long and runs through the northern part of Hässleholm Municipality. In the south, it connects the unique Skeingeborg castle ruins with the Hörlinge ängar open-air museum and the Skåneleden trail in the north. During the summer season, hikers on the Vieåleden cross the Helge å on a hand-operated cable ferry; depending on the weather, this is possible from May to October.

The Finjasjön runt hike starts at the Hässleholm Hassellundsvägen stop. It leads into the Hovdala nature area on the lakeshore, with Dallerödskogen lying before the route. Another stage runs from Hässleholm C station to the Göingeåsen camping area and is 12 kilometres long. The Hovdala Hiking Centre offers suggestions for hiking tours lasting from one to four overnight stays.

Hässleholmsgården is also one of the mentioned starting points for trails: there are several training routes there, measuring 2.5, 5.5 and 10 kilometres.

Cycling

The Göingerundan cycle route starts in the centre of Hässleholm and is 25 kilometres long. The Norra Skogsrundan cycle route measures 45 kilometres, runs through flat terrain and leads north from Hässleholm into the area around Hästveda.

Culture and History

Hovdala Castle combines historic buildings with a freely accessible outdoor area: the park and garden are open and accessible around the clock, and admission is free. Visitors enter the castle’s main floor as part of a guided tour. The gatehouse of Hovdala Castle was built in 1600.

The historic buildings at Hässleholmsgården date from the late 18th to the mid-19th century. Hässleholm Museum houses Sweden’s largest exhibition of Swedish chain-driven and wheeled vehicles. The museum also includes a fire service museum with fire engines and equipment, as well as a carriage museum with horse-drawn vehicles, including some from Hovdala Castle. A large wallpaper in the museum was painted in the mid-19th century by the local artist Olof Nilsson.

The Tykarpsgrottan is located in the surrounding area. Its mine is open to visitors only as part of guided tours. Tykarpsgrottan is of great geological interest; stalactites and stalagmites are slowly forming there.

Food and Drink

In the surrounding area, a winery offers picnics featuring local flavours. Guided tours of a winery are also available there for groups.
