Vittsjö: Forests, Lakes and Medieval Traces
Accommodation in Vittsjö
Vittsjö is a destination for anyone who wants to combine nature, hiking trails and traces of history. The wider Vittsjö-Verum-Pastorat travel area is located in northern Skåne on the border with Småland, about 30 kilometres north of Hässleholm. Vittsjö has been a spa town since the 19th century. When choosing your holiday apartment or holiday home, the area therefore offers an interesting mix of landscape experiences, cultural history and good transport connections.
Forests and lakes around Vittsjö
The Ubbalt Nature Reserve is located on Verumsåsen, east of Lake Vittsjön. Ancient beech forest dominates there. In the areas with beech trees more than one hundred years old, there is a rich variety of lichen and moss species. Anyone who appreciates special forest landscapes when travelling will find a genuine natural experience here, away from purely sightseeing-oriented visits to towns.
The Skåneleden runs through the Ubbalt Nature Reserve. Stage 9 of the Skåneleden leads through varied forests to the lake district around Vittsjö. Along the Skåneleden, Vittsjö offers opportunities for walks and hikes. This allows you to plan your days according to your preferred focus, alternating between forest, water and longer stretches of trail.
Hiking trails with varied impressions
The Lehultsrundan is a 7.9-kilometre hiking trail through spruce and mixed forest, clear-cut areas and old agricultural land. The changing landscapes make the route a vivid combination of forest and cultural landscape. You can factor the 7.9-kilometre distance into your daily planning.
The Vieåleden is a seasonally open circular hiking trail approximately 11 to 14 kilometres long. The trail leads through deciduous and coniferous forests and along rapids and ravines. Skeingeborg, a medieval castle ruin known for its octagonal ring wall, lies along the Vieåleden. Skeingeborg is considered a unique medieval ring-wall ruin, approximately 900 years old, situated amid nature. You should take the seasonal opening and approximate trail length into account when planning.
Discover medieval history
Vittsjöborg is also part of the area's history. The site was built in the 1330s and destroyed by fire about 30 years later. Together with Skeingeborg, Vittsjö thus offers two different approaches to the past: Vittsjöborg represents a specific medieval history of construction and destruction, while Skeingeborg, as a ruin along a hiking trail, is integrated into the landscape.
Lakes and fishing
The Vittsjön fishing area includes Lillasjö, Högholmsjön, Oresjön, Mellomsjön, Pickelsjön, Lehultasjön, Hårsjön, Gustav Adolf-ån and part of the Vieån. Anyone who enjoys adding water and fishing to their holiday can take these waters into account when planning their trip. Vittsjöhallen and Vittsjö Camping sell fishing permits for Vittsjön.
Getting there and choosing accommodation
Vittsjö has good connections via the Pågatågen, placing it close to the town of Hässleholm. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore first consider which type of travel suits you: Should the accommodation primarily serve as a base for hikes, or would you like to combine nature and cultural destinations with rail connections? The specific routes, seasonal information and trail lengths will help you choose the right location for your stay.
