Holiday apartment in Båstad: Coast, culture and trails on the Bjäre Peninsula

On the Bjäre Peninsula, a challenging coastal hike runs for 52 kilometres from Båstad via Torekov and Grevie back to Båstad. Around the town, the coast, trails, cultural history and regional destinations combine to create a diverse picture.

Culture and history

Just outside Båstad, on the scenic coast, lie Norrviken Gardens. Rudolf Abelin created the formal gardens at the beginning of the 20th century. You can reach the gardens by car, local bus or bicycle.

In the centre of Båstad is the Sveriges Tennismuseum, Sweden’s only tennis museum. It presents Swedish tennis history through pictures, texts and films. Föreningen Gamla Båstad offers another cultural perspective on the town: it preserves and documents the buildings of old Båstad and makes the cultural heritage accessible through pictures, architectural history and people’s memories.

At the Birgit Nilsson Museum, visitors can experience the farm where Birgit Nilsson played as a child and dreamed of a life in the world of singing and opera. From Båstad, the museum can be reached by bus 502 towards Torekov.

Nature and trails

Several described routes are available for different distances. The 12-kilometre Kustslingan hiking trail begins in Malen, while the Båstad Runt hiking trail starts at Båstad torg. The blue Hålehall loop runs along a forest path and is suitable for pushchairs.

The hike through Sinarpsdalen can begin at the exhibition venue or nature school in Dala near Båstad, or at Vitsippsvägen in Grevie; a bus stops at both ends. The western part of Sinarpsdalen features an agricultural landscape with high natural and cultural-historical values.

In the woodland south of Axelstorp, there are beech forests, ravines and a waterfall. Axelstorpsslingan begins in Båstad and leads through the nature reserve. The landscape also includes a sandy beach that is just over 1 kilometre long and 15 to 25 metres wide; the water is very shallow and the seabed sandy.

Båstad has four cycling routes: Kattegattleden, Cykelleden Skåne, Bjäre Banvall and Buktenleden. The sculpture “Vera & the forest hare” can be a destination, picnic spot and place to take a break during a cycling tour.

The Gårdsbutikssafari also takes the form of a circular tour across the Bjäre Peninsula to farm shops. It leads to Hov and on to Segelstorp before returning to Båstad; along the way, freshly harvested fruit and vegetables as well as handmade foods are offered.

Båstad Golfklubb was founded by Ludvig Nobel in 1930. Gamla Banan at Båstad Golfklubb is Sweden’s second-oldest 18-hole course. The club offers members and guests the opportunity to spend a full day playing golf, as well as a restaurant, a well-stocked shop and training facilities.

Getting around
