Holiday apartment in Skurup: Brick Gothic, nature and coastal paths

Skurup displays its distinctive character in the town centre: Skurup Gothic, an architectural style made of red brick, still defines the town today. Numerous buildings made of machine-produced red brick and an altered grid layout are part of this townscape. Skurup’s railway settlement is of national interest for cultural heritage preservation and represents the Swedish station communities of Scania around the turn of the 20th century.

Culture and history

Another prominent landmark is Skurup Church. The church was originally built around the year 1200 in the form of a Romanesque basilica and has paintings in the choir and apse. In Skurup City Park, history blends with an established park landscape: it was laid out in 1927, mainly according to a Danish garden concept. Today, rhododendrons and old, mature trees grow there.

Nature and trails

The municipality of Skurup extends from south to north through parts of Söderslätt, the hilly landscape of southern Scania and the southern slope of Romeleåsen. These different landscape areas are also reflected in the natural areas around the town. Zimmermans backe is a nature reserve on a high hill on the northern edge of Skurup. The summit lies about 25 metres above the town of Skurup and offers views of the surrounding area.

Bräknehus lies north of Skurup. There, a lit, predominantly gravelled 2.5-kilometre loop runs around Bräknehus and Zimmermans backe. The area features various trees that support a diverse bird population. Svaneholm Vassen Nature Reserve contains old oak and beech woodland as well as an accessible path around the lake.

Mossbystrand Nature Reserve has a sandy beach suitable for swimming and dry-meadow flora including pasqueflower and sand thyme. The 12-kilometre Skåneleden trail between Mossbystrand and Bingsmarken runs along the coast and passes small fishing villages and idyllic harbours. An inviting white sandy beach has an accessible ramp, a bathing jetty and picnic areas.

Further paths complement this picture: southeast of Skurup, a 1.2-kilometre, lit and paved route for pedestrians and cyclists runs around Lake Prästamossen. A health trail also runs around the lake. In addition, there are signposted walking trails measuring 2.6 and 4.2 kilometres.
