Ibiza: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The World Heritage site “Ibiza, Biodiversity and Culture” combines archaeological and historical sites on Ibiza with an adjacent marine reserve of global significance.

Culture and History

The Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta preserves important archaeological evidence of the first Phoenician settlement in the 8th century BC. The Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins covers more than 5 hectares and contains more than 5,000 tombs from the Punic, Roman and Islamic periods.

Dalt Vila is an outstanding example of Renaissance military architecture. The Museu d’Art Contemporani d’Eivissa (MACE) opened in 1969 and is one of the oldest museums of contemporary art in Spain.

Ibiza’s coastal defence towers were built between the 16th and 18th centuries to monitor the coast and warn of possible pirate attacks. Traditional payesian houses on Ibiza are characterised by cubic structures, whitewashed walls, small windows and the use of local materials.

Traditional Ibiza pottery is considered a long-standing craft tradition dating back to Roman times. Adlib is regarded as one of Ibiza’s best-known craft traditions and is characterised by a bohemian, flowing and elegant style.

Nature and Coast

The seagrass meadows of Posidonia oceanica contribute to rich marine biodiversity, including endemic and endangered species. The Parc Natural de ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera encompasses terrestrial and marine habitats of ecological, scenic, historical and cultural value.

At the Parc Natural de ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera, the Centre d’Interpretació de Sant Francesc presents an exhibition about salt extraction featuring modern images and old tools used in traditional salt production. The Cova de Can Marçà in Port de Sant Miquel in the north of Ibiza is a significant natural attraction and a geological feature several thousand years old, with stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls and calcareous formations.

Ibiza’s coast combines long sandy beaches with small coves sheltered between cliffs. Cala Es Cubells is a pebble beach below the cliffs in the south of Ibiza. Access to Cala Es Cubells leads from the nearby small settlement of es Cubells along a winding road and then on foot via an unpaved path down to the beach.

Activities

Ibiza has a network of 20 signposted cycling routes supported by the Consell. Ibiza’s nature routes include rural paths, old connecting routes between villages, routes through almond groves, as well as paths to cliffs and viewpoints.

Water sports such as stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and kitesurfing are offered and practised on Ibiza’s beaches. The underwater route to the Don Pedro is recommended for experienced scuba divers, as most of the wreck lies at a depth of more than 40 metres. The Don Pedro wreck offers four possible dives at depths of more than 30 metres.

Festivals and Crafts

The Sant Joan festival is celebrated every year on 24 June in various locations on Ibiza. The festival of the Virgen del Carmen is celebrated in Ibiza’s ports in July and includes processions on water and on land.

Visitors can tour the Salina de Ibiza to learn more about traditional salt production. Ibiza has numerous markets and fairs offering handcrafted clothing and accessories, as well as decorative objects and works of art.

Ibiza Airport connects the island with major Spanish and European cities through regular and seasonal flights. Ibiza’s ports are served by ferries and ships from mainland Spain and neighbouring islands.
