The historic ensemble of Sant Mateu d'Albarca was classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) on 29 March 1996. The parish church of Sant Mateu was built between 1785 and 1796. The Torres den Lluc are part of a larger fortress whose purpose is not precisely known. Thus, this place brings together an officially recognised historic ensemble, an independent religious building and a fortification whose original function remains unclear.

Wine and local production

Can Maymó is a family winery founded in Sant Mateu in 1995. The winery offers guided tours and tastings of four wines accompanied by local cheese and local cured meats. Can Maymó also produces extra virgin olive oil and has around 500 olive trees. Wine, cheese, cured meats and olive oil are therefore each specifically associated with this producer.

The cliffs of Camp Vell in Sant Mateu d'Albarca are located within the bird protection area ES0000516. The Serra de Sant Mateu d’Albarca is designated within Es Amunts as an area of special natural interest. Both landscape references are associated with an explicitly named area category: one with a bird protection area and the other with a designated area of special natural interest.

Hiking trails

A 2- to 3-hour circular hike around the Poljé of Sant Mateu is recommended. The route from Sant Mateu to the Torres den Lluc is a circular trail of just over 11 kilometres that takes around four hours. This hiking route begins at Sant Mateu church. Access to the Sinclinal de Cala d’Albarca begins in Sant Mateu d'Albarca on the road to the right of the Camp Vell restaurant, the Camí Turs or PMV-804-1; after around 715 metres, you reach a junction.
