Towers, Bridge and Renaissance
The Falterturm, formerly called the “Falltorturm,” was built between 1469 and 1496 as a watchtower in the outer city wall. The Marktturm is 39 metres high. Originally, it was part of the inner city wall and served as a watchtower and prison. The Old Main Bridge, also known as “Pippinsbrücke,” has medieval origins and was first mentioned in a document in 1300.
The town hall stands on the market square. This historic 16th-century building was constructed by Hans Eckart von Schaffhausen in the Renaissance style. Kitzingen thus offers glimpses of different chapters in the city’s history, from its fortifications and bridge to its Renaissance architecture. A city walk takes you to major sights, charming squares and special corners of the city. In the Kitzinger Land, the landscape lies along the foothills of the Steigerwald, where the Main winds in loops and vineyards stretch across the region. In Großlangheim, the TERROIR-F site above the Kiliansberg vineyard, at the Hardthütte, has a viewing platform shaped like a reclining Bocksbeutel wine bottle.
