Großlangheim: Wine Trails, Nature and History
Accommodation in Großlangheim
Großlangheim brings together the history of winegrowing, paths through the countryside, nature and historic sites. Wine is more than a part of the town’s history: a wine experience trail, a viewing platform and guided tours with an optional wine tasting offer different ways to plan your holiday.

Wine Trails and Views
Großlangheim is one of the oldest winegrowing communities in the surrounding area. The wine experience trail starts at the Winzerbrünnle in the town centre. Information boards along the way tell you about wine, grape varieties and winegrowing; the trail continues to the Hardthütte. From there, the panoramic view stretches from the Schwanberg across the Main Valley.
At the Hardthütte, the terroir f viewing platform rises above the Kiliansberg vineyard site. Its shape echoes the reclining Bocksbeutel, the symbol and trademark of Franconian wine. The trail combines information about winegrowing with a viewpoint where the design itself also reflects the theme. If you book a guided tour, Großlangheim’s local guides can arrange a wine tasting on request. Please arrange this with the guides in advance.
On the Move: Exercise and Nature
The public Krackenweg is about five kilometres long, runs around Großlangheim and can be walked in stages. Its 15 stops include play features and places to rest, including a water playground, a barefoot path and fitness equipment for adults. If you would rather split the route into several sections, the option to walk it in stages gives you a practical point to consider when planning; the different features at each stop add more points of interest along the way.
The seasons also bring different highlights. Rare plant species, including orchids, can be found all year round in the “Kranzer” wetland biotope. By contrast, the early-flowering forest invites visitors for walks in early spring: snowflakes bloom among the old oak trees, though their flowering varies from year to year. This offers both a nature attraction that can be enjoyed all year and a walk that is specifically seasonal.
The Chapel and Local History
Frescoes in the Antonius Chapel tell scenes from the life of Saint Anthony in a cycle of 16 images dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. After seven years of restoration, the chapel reopened in 1977. If you would like to visit, contact the Großlangheim market town administration in advance.
The period of the county is also part of the town’s history: Großlangheim served as its principal town for a time and apparently also as the counts’ residence for a period. The Marterlesweg is another local cultural attraction and is offered as a guided tour. It leads to stone monuments of popular religious devotion; ask the local guides whether this tour is currently available.
A Distinct Cultural Attraction in Kitzingen
The wider destination of Kitzingen has other, distinct historical attractions. The Falterturm, formerly known as the “Falltorturm”, was built there between 1469 and 1496 as a watchtower on the outer town wall. The Old Main Bridge in Kitzingen, also called “Pippinsbrücke”, has medieval origins and was first mentioned in a document in 1300. If you are planning a stay in the wider destination of Kitzingen, these urban landmarks can offer a different cultural perspective alongside Großlangheim’s wine, nature and history.
Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Holiday Interests
When looking for a holiday apartment in Großlangheim, consider what you would like your days away to focus on: winegrowing and panoramic views, exercise on a trail you can walk in stages, a seasonal stroll, or the chapel and local history. These themes offer practical guidance when choosing where to stay. You can also weigh up different interests rather than trying to fit every experience into a single outing.
