Mainstockheim between the Main and the vineyards
Accommodation in Mainstockheim
The plain along the Main and the vineyards of the “Mainstockheimer Hofstück” wine-growing area give Mainstockheim its distinctive landscape setting. The village is also home to buildings with very different stories. Two designated circular hiking trails pass through Mainstockheim and its vineyards, while the Main Cycle Route runs through the village and its surrounding district along the river. This lets you tailor your stay to your travel group’s interests, whether that means getting outdoors, discovering local history or arranging a wine visit.
Vineyards and landscapes along the Main
The Main River plain and the vineyards of the Mainstockheimer Hofstück are two defining features of the landscape. The transition between the flatlands and the vineyards gives the village a clear connection to its riverside setting. Those interested in wine and the history of a wine-growing village will also find specific ways to explore these themes: after a guided tour of Mainstockheim, wines from the Mainstockheimer Hofstück can be sampled at a local winery by prior arrangement. The tasting is subject to a guided tour and advance booking.
Architectural history and special details
The first historical mention of the Protestant Church of St. James dates to May 22, 1451. A small Bible garden has stood within the church’s walled grounds since spring 2013. The church site thus brings together an early historical reference and a more recent addition to its surroundings.
The former synagogue tells a different story: it was built in 1836 in the Neoclassical style for the Jewish community. Today, the building serves as a Catholic place of worship. Its architectural history and present-day use show how a building’s function can change over time.
The Ebracher Hof also offers several points of historical interest. The former Ebrach Abbey courtyard was built between 1621 and 1623 in the richly ornamented Renaissance style. The garden of the Ebracher Hof was laid out across several levels between 1727 and 1734 and covers more than 4,600 square metres. The building and garden therefore belong to different historical periods. A smaller, unusual detail is the old bell turret that has been preserved on a residential building in Gumbertusgasse.
On foot, by bike and on the water
Two designated circular hiking trails pass through Mainstockheim and its vineyards. Guided tours are available on request. For groups, Laura Voit, a former wine princess, leads tours for visitors in Mainstockheim; advance enquiries are required. If you would rather explore by bike, the Main Cycle Route runs through the village and its surrounding district along the river. Hiking, cycling and guided tours offer different ways to make the vineyards and village the focus of a day out.
The Chris-Tina ferry connects Mainstockheim and Albertshofen. If you plan to cross the river, check the current timetable in advance. Mainstockheim is also located directly on the Nuremberg–Frankfurt railway line; it is a good idea to check the timetable before travelling here, too. This way, you can plan around connections that actually suit you without assuming a particular frequency.
Wine visits and seasonal invitations
By prior arrangement, a tasting at a local winery can be added to a guided tour of the wine-growing village. If you would like to include this experience in your stay, be sure to book in advance. In autumn, the hosts in Mainstockheim invite visitors to relaxed Bremser evenings. As this is a seasonal offering, ask about current dates for your travel period.
When looking for a holiday apartment in Mainstockheim, it helps to first decide what kind of pace you want for your getaway: would you like to focus on outdoor activities along the circular hiking trails or the Main Cycle Route, are you especially interested in architectural history, or would you like to arrange a wine visit?
