Visitors to the Múzeum kysuckej dediny can ride a train on a preserved section of the historic switchback railway. In Stará Bystrica, an astronomical clock is considered the largest wooden sculpture in Slovakia.

Those who choose Čadca as their destination may want to rent a holiday apartment for their stay.

Nature

Klokočovské skálie is a protected nature reserve with stone spheres and also a geological rock outcrop. It is located in an approximately 300 m long and 15 to 25 m high rock face with spherical jointing. The site can be reached from Jarošovci via a marked trail; the visit takes about one hour.

Megonky is also classified as a protected natural monument with stone spheres. The Korňanský oil spring can be reached by bus, while the spring pond is about 300 m from the road.

The observation tower on Surovina offers views of the Oščadnica Valley, Krásno nad Kysucou and Čadca. A blue hiking trail runs directly by the tower and continues to Veľká Rača.

Culture and History

The Vlastivedné múzeum in Krásno nad Kysucou features a life-size replica of a female mammoth as its main attraction, based on fossil remains found nearby. A natural history exhibition presents specimens from the animal and plant life of northwestern Slovakia. The permanent exhibition “Otvorený depozitár” includes collection objects from the Kysucké múzeum covering archaeology, ethnography and history, as well as household life, textile fibre processing, wire-working, sacred art, military affairs, furniture, personalities from Kysuce and other crafts.

Radoľa Manor House is the only preserved Renaissance residence of the lesser nobility in the Kysuce region. It hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as lectures and creative workshops.

The Kysucká galéria in Oščadnica is a regional gallery. It focuses on the presentation, research and collection of modern art, including works by artists from the Kysuce region and prominent Slovak artists.

The “Horelický poklad” exhibition displays a selection of 250 silver coins. Another exhibition on the history of Čadca and its surroundings allows visitors to search online databases for emigrants, their own ancestors and legionnaires.

Faith and Events

Živčáková is a Marian pilgrimage site with the Cathedral of the Temple of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, and springs. Pilgrimages take place there every year in spring and autumn.

At the Jánsky festival tradícií in Čadca, a traditional craft market and creative craft workshops were held on 22 June 2024. After the judging, visitors could taste goulash from every participating competition team.

The amateur theatre competition Palárikova Raková takes place every year in Raková.

Winter and Activities

The Javorníky ridge trail ends in Čadca and is about 64 km long. In winter, the Beskydsko-javornícka cross-country skiing trail is groomed; it is suitable for tourists and mountain visitors of all ages.
