Klokočov stands out for the Klokočovské skálie Nature Reserve: it lies within the cadastral area of the village and is subject to the fifth level of protection.
Nature
One of the defining natural features of the protected area is a sandstone wall approximately 300 metres long. Its height ranges from 2 to 20 metres, and it also exhibits spherical weathering. The area contains fir and fir-spruce forests, as well as spring areas of the foothill zone on carbonate-free rocks.
Within the protected area, Klokočov thus combines distinctive rock formations with forests and spring areas. The sandstone wall stands as a clearly recognisable geological structure alongside the forested areas; the reference to carbonate-free rocks describes the geological setting of the spring areas. This creates a natural landscape that consists not merely of a single feature.
Another protected area in Klokočov is Polkova. It comprises transitional mires, oligotrophic fen meadows, extensively managed short-grass pastures and wet meadows dominated by purple moor-grass. In addition, the Klokočovské rašeliniská are listed in Slovakia's national list of sites of European importance. There are twelve such sites in Klokočov.
The protected landscapes show different wet habitats: Polkova ranges from transitional mires and fen meadows to pastures and purple moor-grass meadows, while the Klokočovské rašeliniská are recorded through their inclusion in Slovakia's national list of sites of European importance. The number twelve refers to such sites in Klokočov and supplements the individual naming of the Klokočovské rašeliniská.
Trails and winter
The Na Biely Kríž z Klokočova route begins in Klokočov, in the Vrchpredmier district. It is 3.6 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 299 metres; the walking time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Its course follows the Czech-Slovak border area. In winter, a groomed cross-country ski trail is available there.
For this route, the distance, elevation gain and approximate walking time combine to provide a specific picture of its course. At the same time, its use varies over the course of the year: in addition to the route, a groomed cross-country ski trail is specified for winter. The border location remains an independent feature of the route.
The Z Klokočova do Čadce cycling route is designed for mountain bikes. It is 18 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 300 metres.
The cycling route differs from the Na Biely Kríž route both in length and in the explicitly stated means of transport. At 18 kilometres and 300 metres of elevation gain, it is described as a separate route alongside the shorter course starting in Vrchpredmier.
Culture
Above the settlement of Pantokovci in Klokočov is a small sacred complex dating from 1937. It can be accessed approximately one kilometre from the main road. The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is also part of the village's sacred landmarks. The Secession building with Neo-Gothic elements was constructed from 1918 to 1928. The interior furnishings from 1928 include a Baroque crucifix from the 18th century.
The sacred monuments thus span different periods and forms: the small complex above Pantokovci dates from 1937, while the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was built between 1918 and 1928. At the church, Secession and Neo-Gothic elements come together; the Baroque crucifix from the 18th century is part of the 1928 interior furnishings.
The foothill areas of Kysuce also preserve a historic settlement structure. It was shaped by gradual settlement from the 16th century onwards during the Wallachian colonisation. Buildings of folk architecture with varying cultural and historical value are found within this settlement landscape.
The settlement structure of the foothill areas of Kysuce thus points to a long historical development. Its shaping through gradual settlement from the 16th century onwards is connected with the Wallachian colonisation. The folk-architecture buildings do not form a uniform group within this landscape, but have differing cultural and historical value.
