Holiday apartment in Klubina: Landscape, culture and cycling

Klubina lies at the transition between the Kysucké vrchy and the Slovenské Beskydy in the valley of the Bystrica River. The landscape, waterways and distinctive elevations define the geographical setting of the village. The highest point in the cadastral area of Klubina is Veľká Rača, at 1,236 m, in the Klubinská dolina.

Nature

The Klubinský potok nature reserve is located within the cadastral area of Klubina. The Klubinský potok of the same name flows into the Bystrica River from the right near Klubina. The mountains Marusov Vrch, Tkáčova Hora and Černatin are also located nearby. Upratisko is a mountain in the surroundings of Klubina. In the wider regional area, there is Starý Hrad, a ruin.

The landscape can also be explored via a designated cycling connection: a relatively easy section of the Kysucká Cyklomagistrála leads from Nová Bystrica to Klubina. A pavilion was built in the amphitheatre na Kamencoch in Klubina. It is located near the Bystrická cyklomagistrála and forms part of the culture and recreation complex “Výstavba amfiteátra na Kamencoch v Klubine”.

Culture

A distinctive religious route in Klubina is the Way of the Cross. It runs along the access road from the wooden bell tower to the Chapel of the Divine Mercy. In the lower part of Klubina, a wayside cross with relief sculptures of Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary and Saint Francis was erected in 1911.

The former craft and agricultural use has also been documented. Towards the end of the 19th century, a multifunctional building with a water mill and sawmill was built in Klubina. The basement of the former building contained drive equipment, a saw frame, a mill room, shingle production facilities and a grain-sieving area. The former building with a water mill and sawmill from Klubina is currently on display at the Múzeum kysuckej dediny in Vychylovka.

The preserved components show how different work processes came together in this former building: the drive equipment, saw frame, mill room, shingle production facilities and grain-sieving area belong to the historic equipment of the water mill and sawmill. The exhibition in Vychylovka preserves this former building as a single unit. In this way, both the technical equipment and the various uses of the multifunctional building remain connected in the documented presentation. Its historic character arises from the interplay of driving, processing and sieving.

Places of worship

The Panny Márie – Povýšky (Povišky) Chapel houses a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1869. The chapel was rebuilt by residents of Klubina in 1961 and renovated in 1990. Every year, around the Feast of Our Lady, Queen, on 22 August, worshippers from Klubina and the surrounding villages gather at the Panny Márie – Povýšky (Povišky) Chapel.

The combination of mountain landscape, river environment, cycling route, religious sites and documented workplaces gives Klubina several clearly recognizable facets. Those who explore the area beyond its immediate surroundings will find further destinations at the same regional level: Svrčinovec, Turzovka, Zborov Nad Bystricou, Vysoká Nad Kysucou, Makov, Tschadsa, Stara Bystrica, Oscadnica.
